10/22 safety- just checking

When my 10/22 is unloaded, bolt closed, my safety will not engage. Only after I have cocked the action will the gun go into safety.

Is this normal?

The manual doesn't explicitly state under what conditions the gun should be able to enter safe (at least not that I can remember from last night).

Just curious.

NM I just did a search and found feedback confirming this is how the gun functions. DOH my bad =D
