Matt; Never new that existed it is very tempting, looks like just what I need. However right now I am stuck on putting together the info I get here on the Forum plus doing some research myself and trying my luck on building my own lite weight Ruger rifle. Right now I,m searching for an older but in good shape Ruger 10/22 Going to clean up the receiver & polish up the bolt maybe adding a few new upgrades to it & either redo the trigger group with an upgrade kit from one of the better trigger manufactures or just drop a new Ruger BX trigger group in it. Then Fancy up the original stock & see what I end up with. Hopefully a great shooter at 100 yards. Basically I,m an older guy (80+) and it keeps me busy & I still love to shoot.

Thanks for that heads up. Truthfully I have been leaning towards a heavy bull barrel & your post prolly made my mind up. That and the fact that I am not going to be running thru the woods with this thing, I am going to be carrying it from the car to a bench rest so why I ask the lite barrel. I think a Heavy Barrel will be be a little more accurate & that is what I am looking for. I am going to go for a Kidd barrel & I like the looks of the fluted bull barrel. I haven't bought anything yet still looking for deals on the components. I was trying to keep it under $500 but right now I'm coming in at about $900 so I think it's going to take a few months which really isn't a bad thing I'll just have to suffer thru shooting my Ruger 22 Magnum. Once again thanks for the heads u 😀 😀 p.

PS: any one looking to get rid of 10/22 components I'm interested$$$$

By the way crackedcornish Very nice collection there. How do you like those two bottom stocks. I guess they are Boyds, I like the same type with the thumb holes I have to try a few out before I decide.

Another great collection LOF! I like the red touch on that 1st rifle. My preference for a stock is the Boyds "At One Competition" not sure what color yet but the steel in it is going to be all SS or silver.
Right now I feel the way to go based on what I have put together so far, is with all Kidd hardware. Their write ups seem to be very good & they have what I want. They have a silver receiver with a scalloped bolt along with a silver trigger group and a heavy fluted 20" barrel. However this is not yet cast in stone but in doing my do diligence & research outside of going with the really high end stuff they are in the ball park (price range) with accuracy & reliability as all the other guys. It's going to be a while before it all gets done but right now that is how I'm trending.
What say you guys?

I feel the same as you that a longer steel barrel will be more accurate. Which is why I am opting for the SS 20 in. barrel. Now a Carbon Clad barrel is not something I have looked at. I guess under the cladding is a steel barrel? As far as the Carbon Barrels they don't interest me, they are more money & they don't seem to be any more accurate then the SS or Steel barrels. And if they are then they are more accurate then I can shoot. So other then different color choices they don't interest me at this point plus like I said in an earlier post I am not going to be running around the woods with this thing so weighting less then metal is not a concern either.

I bought the first component of my build, the barrel. It is a KSA SS 20" fluted bull barrel threaded. I know I said I was going to go with all Kidd parts but as I started to price it out it just got to be more then I wanted to spend. I also ordered a complete Ruger SS receiver, bolt, trigger & V block from S & A Outfitters. Any one have any experience with the KSA barrels?

Wow sounds expensive! Prolly more then I payed for my barrel. Do you get a lot of request's for that kind of work from recreational shooters? Guy's that go to the range a few times a month?
When you say "production chambers" what would I have to spend to get a barrel that will shoot 1/2" groups or better and what company's sell non production barrels that will shoot those kind of groups out of the box?
Could I get a barrel like that for under $500.00?

Holy smokes he does it all, at prices that I would call more then reasonable. I never thought you could get that much precision work on a gun for those kind of prices. After I put it all together and start shooting it if I'm not happy it is something I would consider.

Well I couldn't help myself and I gave into my urges and bought a Ruger 10/22 Light Target Varmint off of gunbroker, 20" SS Bull Barrel Threaded.
I know I shouldn't have but its Christmas and until all my build parts come in I don't have a 10/22 to shoot other them my magnums.
Unfortunately I really got carried away and bought a New Savage A 22 but after thinking about it I said to myself , self that's crazy you know you will not be happy with a Savage no matter how good it shoots plus there just isn't the after market parts to play with like you have with Ruger. So I canceled it for a slap on the wrist from Gunbroker but I'm happy. And life is to short not to be HAPPY. To be continued when it comes in. By the way suggestions on a Reasonable priced Stainless scope.

I have to apologize but I haven't forgotten about you helpful guys I finally got all the components for the build and started it. I haven't been posting pix because I couldn't figure out how to. But I just got a new free hosting platform and I will post some pix tomorrow.

My picture taking skills leave a lot to be desired but here it is. The receiver & trigger group are RUGER gotten from a member here on the forum. I did a trigger job on it and got the trigger weight down from 6.10 lbs to 2.4 lbs much more to my liking. Also added a Volquartzen Target Trigger.
The stock was an old beat up Volquartzen that I got off of fleebay for a good price. I stripped it and sanded it and put 8 coats of Birchwood Stock Oil on it !!!! I knew it had a beautiful grain to it. I really like that Volquartzen stock it has something I have never seen before, a spring loaded aluminum barrel support at the front of the stock to address that dreaded “barrel droop” pretty cool. Is that a common thing on other stocks? I have a Nikon Scope with a BDC Retical to put on it. I don’t like the rubber butt pad & am going to change it any suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Going to the range in a day or two & will follow up with a range report. Thanks for all the help & info

As for the barrel push up thingy, could we get a picture of that?

The bold and charging handle were bought from Atomic Engraving they sell gun parts & 10/22 bolts. They do engraving on bolts mine was a blemish just the engraving not the bolt itself. The bolt they sell is is a JWH the handle is just an extended handle they also sell them.
As far as the receiver goes it is sitting too deep into the stock thus the high wood in the tang & the trigger group sticking out underneath. Right now I’m just letting it sit while I decide what to do. Over all it’s about 1/8th to 3/16 high on top and protruding on the bottom. I think if I bed the receiver it will correct both. What do you think. I really don’t want to remove any wood.
I can’t say if it’s a magnum stock or not, the fleebay seller didn’t say. I want to shoot it before I do anything. Later I’ll take & post pix of that push-up thingy.

A minor problem in the world of fleebay, you puts yo money down you takes yo chances. Pix of that thingy coming later today. It,s still a really nice stock.

Here are some pix of the barrel support thingy at the end of the stock. It has a small coil spring under it & that Allen screw in the front is what you adjust the tension with. First time I have ever seen anything like it so

And the edge can be built back up with a little jb weld , or bedding glass.
That thingy is interesting, I might put a piece of felt or tyre tube on it ?

Here are a couple of pix of the finished products. One is mounted in a Boyd’s At One stock the other is the stock I got off fleebay. I ended up having to do a little fitment on the fleebay stock as you picked up on that 2many22s. The stock was fitted for a slightly different receiver but it worked. I still have not shot either one yet as I was still tweaking them.
The Boyd’s stock fit just unbelievable Ike it was hand made just for my receiver absolutely perfect. I would highly recommend them.
