I don't know what your price was, but maybe the Weaver RV9 Rimfire scope.
It's a 3-9x32. Not a big scope, not fixed power so you have options on magnification, adjustable AO to deal with parallax, under a pound.

Or for a cheaper alternative the Mueller Apv. Almost the same feature but this scope is 40mm. It does come with a 3in sunshade and is about 100 dollars cheaper than the weaver. This one is just barely over 1lb (17.5 oz)

      Hope that helps:)

Check out the reviews on Amazon for the scope you are interested in.

If you can swing the extra bucks you might want to move up to the 30 mm APT 4.5-14 x 40mm. This is the scope I just bought, and tried it out for the first time yesterday. I will be posting a review in the next day or so.

Briefly the APT version, is nice and bright, at 100 yards you can clearly see .22 holes except if they are in the black, then you have to really study to see where they are at. I print most of my targets on white 8.5x11 paper and use light grey for the bulleye so really easy to see POI. Adjust properly I can read print at 100 that is about 1/4 " tall, and even a little smaller if the sun is just right. The issue about audible and tactile feed back from the turrets is accurate. However you can feel them click, and at the house I can easily hear them click, but on the range with all the associated ambient noise typical of a gun range, it is difficult to hear a click.

Take a look at the target image for each scope:
      the APV 4.5x14x44
      the APT 4.5x14x40

Besides price difference the other major diff is the APT weighs 23 oz, the APV weighs 17.5.

Several RFC members including me bought the APT at Dvor.com a week ago when they were on sale for $149 and I had a $10 coupon so price was $139, I made the jump I was going to buy the APV.

Hope this input helps in your buying decision.

You might consider a Mueller APV 4.5-14. Very nice little scope, especially for the price. Not $85, but when you factor in Amazon's tax-free and free shipping, you might find the price difference smaller than you think. And it's a known quantity; I had one a couple of years ago and liked it quite a lot. The only thing I didn't like was that the turrets were not resettable. No big deal, but given a choice I'll take resettable ones. Chinese made, but to better than usual quality standards.

If you had a budget of < $150 for a scope to throw on a first build what would it be? So far the build is mostly black so stainless is out. Magnification 3x9, 4x12?
The goal of my build is for accuracy.

Also a cost effective mount to put on a utg low profile rail mount.

I know some people prefer certain brands and would love to hear your input. :bthumb:

      Regards,
      Ryan
One stop shopping at Amazon.com. Many shooters at RFC like the Mueller 4.5-14x 40mm APV scope in your budget range. The APV has an adjustable objective with a range of 10 yds. to infinity.
I would opt for either the Power Custom or Weaver Multi-Slot base for your build instead of the Utg mount. The Weaver Quad-Lock rings are inexpensive yet very serviceable. The Warne Rings offer
a step up and different look. Good luck with your build...:bthumb:

Thank you Tomcat. I went with your and others suggestions and picked up the Mueller. I am highly impressed with the quality of the glass. Thank you.

Speaking of Mueller........ I'm not much of a scope guy anymore, but have been looking around again for one to use for testing my irons rifles.

I dont know what the regular price on a APV is, but from what all I've read on RFC, 114.00 delivered right now on Amazon seems pretty tough to beat for this scope.
Or maybe thats just what they are going for these days and I'm a bit further removed from scopes than I realized? ;)

      Mueller 4.5-14 x 40 on Amazon

Mueller 4.5-14 x40 showing now on Amazon for $109.31. If you have Amazon Prime, 2-day shipping is free. Hard to go wrong at that price.

      https://www.amazon.com/Mueller-Rifl...481995719&sr=1-2&keywords=mueller+rifle+scope

Amazon users rate it 4.5/5, with 95% giving it either 4 or 5 stars.

Get busy shooting that HM2 ammo you just picked up. :bthumb:

I just bought a new Bushnell trophy 4-12x40 side focus for my 452 .22lr for $130 shipped. Good glass, works perfectly but the ocular is a bit large and I can't go with lower rings.

Now considering a Mueller 4-14x40 AO to go on my new to me 17HM2 American. Hoping to get it lower to bore and a bit more magnification than the Bushnell, and can get it for a bit less than $140 shipped new.

Any and all opinions on the Mueller would be greatly appreciated as well as any alternative options for a sub $200 with similar specs.

I also have access to a new Weaver V16 for $250 shipped but that $110 difference would buy a lot of ammo, not sure it'd be worth it.

      Thanks for any advice.

      JC
