Remember on the sight "righty inny leftty outy" :) . In other words when you replace your rear sight tap it in from the right side (ejection port side).
Though this is somewhat a 'Late Show' post, there's a method to remind you which direction to drive action pins and sights which I use that is VERY simple to memorize and so difficult to forget that I can't even do it. "Sights come right off, if not left on."

Though not standard the TSM200 Tech Sight is far superior to the standard Marlin sights IMHO, and the original equipment can always be reinstalled.:bthumb:

      Will send response soon.

I actually HATE standard iron sights like the factory units. The sight radius is too long, and with my eyes now-a-days it's hard to get a good sight picture. I was looking at a set of these...

I talked to the company and the marlin sights are easily modified for use on the 597 receiver. I also have a leftover BSA Sweet 223 on top of the safe that I am just going to use for the .22. From what I can tell, the Sweet series only differs on the turrents used, and since my wife's Savage MKII BVTS likes the 50gr turret, I can use her leftover 40gr.

      We will see :bthumb:

Sorry to hit on such an old thread. I am trying to find any pictures of these mounted on a scout. I just received my scout and want to change the sights out. I have a smith that will drill and tap them for me. This will be a gift for my son and for me. I was also surprised how off center the factory sights are. Both are shifted way to the left almost outside of the dovetail. Plan to take it out this weekend to confirm the accuracy.
I am specifically looking at the tech sight tsm200 http://www.tech-sights.com/marlin.htm

Thanks for any advice and help. I am a rifle noobe

Well, I just started playing with this fine little rifle. Love it! You could tow a house with the trigger but oh well. I might work on that in time but it's really no that big of a deal. Especially for what I plan this gun to be: A great little all around field gun.

I weaved 20ft of parachute (550) cord onto the stock. I did this for a couple reasons: 1) It added a little weight to the butt, 2) I like the idea of having some cord right there with the gun, and 3) Because I didn't have enough to make the survival sling I want so this was the interim alternative. The weave is broke up in to ten foot sections but is one continuous piece. Untie a couple knots and whip off ten feet, untie a couple more and have the full twenty.

The sling is an old PRC radio pouch sling I laying around and it will do for now. Easy to clip on and off.

The sights are Tech-SIGHT TSM-200's and I also bought the adjustment wrench found on their accesories page. Nice little setup and far superior to the stock sights. http://www.tech-sights.com/marlin.htm

I picked up one extra mag and need to grab a couple more.

I haven't shot the gun with the new sights yet but it shot well in stock configuration so I'm excited to test these out.

Not the greatest pics but I'll toss 'em up anyway as even not so good gun porn is still good gun porn. ;D

I'm older and blinder than you! Don't forget to check out aperture sights (a.k.a. peep sights). Those work for "old eyes" very well too. You don't have to switch totally to scopes. I enjoy shooting my aperture sighted rifles as much as my scoped rifles. Standard iron sights, well, I don't do so well with anymore either. I still shoot them on some of my rifles, but the targets are far safer from harm when I do! If I grab a really really long rifle with standard iron sights, it's much easier than with a short carbine (I'm talking something like a Mosin Nagant 91/30 - where the front sight is so "far out there" that I can actually still focus on it!)
      Peeps are nice :)

Tech-Sights makes the best we've seen so far.

The only peeps I own are mounted on an old (about 1940) model 80 that used to belong to my grandfather. I shot that one fairly well as a youngster and took a few squirrels for breakfast back in the day. I do need to shoot that gun some just for the memories and to find out what these '69 model eyes can do with a set of peeps.

What would be an effective (average) range for a good set of peeps?

      Hey everyone,

I recently inherited a 1972 M60 and wanted to upgrade the sights with the tech-sights TSM200.

I noticed, however, that the magazine band on this is not like the newer models. The front post is actually integral to the band. Take a look...

The pin hole is about 1/16"...I measured with a ruler, not a micrometer, so I might be off a bit.

Can anyone tell me if this is compatible with the new style bands that are sold as replacement parts? (Like this)

Also, will my current inner tube mate with the new band? (I would assume so because they still sell 20" replacement tubes...)

I hope this is a simple part swap because I'm really trying to avoid making permanent modifications to the rifle because of it's age.

      Thanks all!

      Especially a difference with a accessory rail-mounted peep like a Tech Sights...or a Marlin 989M2/99M1 rear sight...

Although, almost ANY change form the OEM rear sight will help...
      Marbles Bullseye is nice...

Marlin's Adjustable Target Sight is REALLY nice...and easy to adjust!!
      http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Detail.aspx?pid=890180&catid=4082

But the accessory-rail mounts are even farther back...
      like the Tech-Sights
      http://www.tech-sights.com/marlin.htm

      TUBE CAPACITY
Should be a max of 18LR, 20 Long, or 25 Shorts...
but as was mentioned above, drop 'em in until you see the last one in the window, then stop.

NOTE: Old rifles often need to have some springs replaced...and the Recoil Buffer is usually toast after 20 years...
J&P Springs makes great replacements for the hammer & recoil spring...
Other places have the long mag-tube spring, like Numrich & Midway USA...
The rest can usually be found at Numrich...get the BLACK recoil buffer, not the white...
