Broken new style Firing Pin

The new style firing pin has an extra hole forward of the pin hole and mine broke right at this hole. This became apparent when I had rounds not chambering because they were not coming all the way up into the bolts "pocket" for the rim.
I had a replacement old style on hand and will order an old style while they are still available. The broken FP had about 1500 rounds on it.

Thanks for posting that Stew.

I've never been one to believe that drilling holes in parts was a good idea to "improve lock time". Reducing friction with better alignment, design, and surface finishes is.

I should know. My MKIII's frictionless hammer group blows the doors off the VQ Target Hammer's "faster lock time".

How do you measure your"lock time" to determine which is faster?

I too would like to know how you verified / documented this.

As to the firing pin issue I've had good results using the Power Custom titanium firing pins.

Let's not hijack Stew's thread. There may be more comments to come about the new Ruger firing pin and it's apparently brittle nature.

I will process and upload some pictures to address your lock time questions, into a new thread.

The firing pin in the OP's post is a factory part. It is the latest version.

Thumbs up tandemkross firing pin

I keep hearing about the MKIV firing pins breaking. I just placed my order for the tandemkross titanium replacement, sounds like a good deal at under 28.00 with discount and postage. their website has a great DIY video, I am mechanically challenged to a point but it looks so easy. it is supposed to arrive next week and I will pull the bolt out and jump on the project!!

I recently ordered a Power Custom titanium firing pin from MIDWAY USA, but while looking at firing pins I saw that they offered this one from Majestic Arms. Notice that it has two extra holes to decrease its weight. I almost bought it, but then I started seeing posts on forums about the Ruger Mark IV firing pins with the hole breaking.
