Has anyone done a 10/22 Magnum scout configuration? I think that is what I am going to do with my factory barrel and stock.

Any advice on scopes or mounts?

Chief Says : Sure , done several of them. Just drill and tap the barrel as you would the 22 Long Rifle . Add the pistol scope or
red dot sight of your choice = your in business.

I do it both ways - Reverse the VQ cantilever mount - or-
Cut a Weaver rail the length you want it , add holes and
cross-slots. Either one work very well.
Oh if you choose the VQ cantilever mount " do secure the opposite end" where the tension screw is ment to go.

Chief Dave,

Thanks for the advice. How do you get the mount flat with the bore? Do you have to shim the front a bit on a sporter barrel?

Do you prefer the pistol scope or red dot in low light?

Chief Says : I cant recall ever doing a scout setup on a standard
barrel . The standard barrel lacks the accuracy for any scoped
application in my book.
LOW light conditions , I prefer a low powered (1.5 or 2x ) pistol
scope , backed up with a set of ITT PVS-7 night vision goggles.
With those you can shoot in total darkness

Chief Says : yes ! THAT is the one I use.

I Just tried setting the mount on a factory tapered barrel.
Looks to fit perfect . The rear of the mount can go as far as 1 inch infront of the rear sight ( reversed ofcourse) .
This puts the rail " base " perfect.
heres pic of base/tape/std brl.
