CM-2 Range Report

As usual I spent the day shooting and getting ready for next weekends 1600 conventional prone match. I was once again trying to get the 1907 to group but to no avail. I switched to the final bull on the Anschutz target to the CM-2 with a known lot of SK Match. I was using everything Russian including the sling from the prone position at 50 yards. I was, however, using a 3.0 plastic insert in the front globe. Wind was 5-10 mph and switched from 9 o'clock to 12 or 6 o'clock. Sunny and hot in the low 90's.

Thats some great shooting.
How do you deal with the wind with Iron sights ???
Here is a wind chart that I use shooting USBR targets.

My CM-2 is having an love affair with SK Pistol Match.

Swiss,
I pick a dominant condition. If the wind blows mostly from 9 to 3 o'clock and the windflags are consistently at a certain level I'll adjust my sights for that condition. If there is no windflag movement but the mirage is running left to right I'll shoot in that condition. If the mirage is going the other way and no windflag movement I'll either wait it out or adjust my windage a few clicks and shoot. If the windflags are flapping parallel to the ground I won't shoot unless that is the dominant condition and I have sighted in during that condition.
My position has to be so that my spotting scope is where I can look through it without moving my head very much at all. It is almost touching my cheek, but not quite. I watch the winflags either through the rear iris or if I'm lucky andthe flag is on the left side of my target frame I can just open both eyes and see the flag with double vision without moving my head off the stock.

Thats interesting.
Thats part of the game....dealing with the wind.
Like USBR shooting if you just put your crosshairs on the bull for each target
at 50 yards you will not do very good. And that is what the sighter target is for.
I am trying to make connections from scope to iron sights.
I also looked & there are prone 50 yard matchs here in MN once a month.

Swiss,
You should give it a try on the prone matches. It's worth it just for the people you'll meet.
