10/22 Tactical Magazine mod.

So I got to think this morning on the way to classes about a cool magazine mod for those that go with the "Tacticool" 10/22's. The bulkier look to the Nordic and other tactical stocks seem to overpower the 10/22 magazine. Not sure where I am going with this and wish I had some pictures to help my idea.

What about taking an AR15 or M16 magazine and modify it to take the 10/22 magazine. From the sides and head on I figure it would look great. I saw the Cliener(sp) magazines but way too expensive. My idea would be to cut down the middle of the AR15 magazine to slide in the 10/22 mag. After removing the guts of AR mag it would be a lot easier. Since it would not be able to fully fit in, I figure it would come up far enough to butt right up against the underside of the lips of the 10/22 and the stock. To an onlooker it would appear as if it were an AR style rifle with the magazine, where the stock 10/22 magazine is a dead giveaway.

To make it work best it would be great to find a straight down 10/22 25 round magazine though. Cut out the middle section of the AR magazine enough equally to get fitmet. You will have a little bit hanging out on both sides and make sure to even it up. Test fit it and the top of the AR magazine that is not covered could be with simple thick plastic or metal and glued into place or epoxied. Sand a little to smooth up the lines and I think you would end up with a great looking "tacticool" AR style magazine.

I wish I had the resources to attempt this, but figured I would share it and see what you gents thought.

10/22 banana clips wont fit inside. use epoxy and attach 10rnd rotary mags on top just like in the above pics. i followed rotaryeye's pics and advice but used 10rnd HK G3 mags. they are straight unlike the semi curvy look of AR mags. i dont have pics sry.

What about those 50 rnd compact, double stack ramline mags? I wonder if those fit inside G3 mags?

I'm pretty sure they're still too thick (I have a couple)

I can measure the width if you'd like

Curious as to whether they are too thick or not. The nordic AR-22 looks great.

Great idea epoxying a rotary magazine to the top of an AR mag.
Gotta try that with a 20 round and a 30 round mag to see which one looks better.

Thanks!

I hate to be that guy but this magazine mod is dumb. Yes it may look better but you are caring way too much about looks than functionality. I never thought I would say that.

westers: to each his own my friend.
i was thinking you could split a 30rnd AK mag on the center welds and use scrap aluminum and reweld it all together so the mag is basically just wider. this would enable you to put say a butler creek 25rnd mag INSIDE of it.

What maybe dumb to you may not be dumb to anybody else. It's not meant for everybody. A Toyota Prius is functional but I wouldn't be caught driving in one. I don't care it it achieves 60mpg, I'd rather walk than owning that thing

The one I did was not made of aluminum/metal (I don't have the nerve to hack out one). But, I gutted out an airsoft mag. So, not much weight added at all.

Thats a really good idea on the airsoft mags instead. Been looking at flea bay and they can be had for next to nothing. Will have to try and pick a couple up and see how they work. Also have to find someone that will sell a 25 round clip and ship to CA too.

If anybody doesnn't like the AR mag look, try the one from JBLee. I got some tips from his thread:
