Rifleman's Guide to Rimfire Ammunition -- Practical Reference for Rimfire Performance

Guys ... after a phone conversation with Steven Boelter,
I decided to buy his book - actually, my wife bought it for me.

THE RIFLEMAN'S GUIDE TO RIMFIRE AMMUNITION
$24.00 to $30.00 depending on retailer

This is the first book I've bought in over a decade sight unseen.
Normally, I don't or won't buy a publication without either
examining the publication or a "buy" recommendation from a friend.

In this case, I violated my own rule
and bought Steve Boelter's book without a look-see.
And, I have not suffered any buyer's regret.

Then, while researching information for this thread
I discovered SAMPLE PAGES DOWNLOAD.

Below are some excerpts available for review.
Quote:
INDEX TO ALL .22LR AMMO TESTED
... KLIMOVSK
...... 112 Temp
...... 114 Junior Sport — Hunting
...... 115 Baikal Sport — Hunting

ELEY LTD. SPORTING &MATCH

Chamber Dimensions

Rimfire Ammunition Design
This book is not a comprehensive history of the .22lr.

Interestingly, there is a specialized section (SHORTIES) on
BB caps, CB caps, Short, CB Short and CB Long cartridges.

This paperback is pragmatic reference resource
into rimfire (.17/.22 caps/.22lr/.22WMR) cartridge performance.

If you are a shooter on a budget (and who isn't) and are searching
for the most accurate ammunition to buy for your rifle.

Whether you're a benchrest competitor, silhouette shooter,
informal target paper-puncher, small game hunter or plinker.

This book will save you money by helping you objectively decide
what ammunition selections maybe best for your rifle within your means.

For you younger shooters, who have begun your journey of knowledge.
There is much to learn about ballistics - "the quest will be never-ending."

Take another step in your voyage ... go the right direction ... buy this book.
Learn the real .22 truth ... and, unlearn the many rimfire myths that exist.

aom,

I did the same thing and not regretting it either.

Very well put together book. Steven did an excellent job. I read it from cover to cover in one day sitting in the deer blind while watching empty fields.

Thank you Steven.

Rifleman's Guide To Rimfire Ammunition

A & J Arms Booksellers:
Quote:
Description: Never before has such an exhausting and comprehensive undertaking been done.

Author Steve Boelter fired every brand and sampling of rimfire ammunition
he could get his hands on and meticulously recorded every detail of his results.

Samples of each ammunition variety fired were weighed, measured,
and disassembled in conjunction with recording five 5-shot record groups.

All totaled, 137 different rimfire rounds were tested from 11 different manufacturers.

Over 32,000 rounds fired!

All brands and all choices were tested in bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles.

Test guns included a Turbo custom benchrest rifle, Volquartzen Custom 10/22,
and Anschutz and Sako competition and sporting rifles.

352 pages in length and contains some 600 photos, illustrations, and tables.
The ultimate ammo test: and other musings
Quote:
Imagine rounding up every brand and every load of rimfire ammunition manufactured today,
breaking down, analyzing and measuring the components
and manufacturing tolerances of every single load,
firing five, 5-shot groups for record at 50 or 100 yards with every load
and meticulously recording all the data for publication.
Book review, 'Rifleman's Guide to Rimfire Ammunition'
Quote:
Most of his comments and test bear fairly closely to my own experience with many varied 22 ammo.
As he discusses there will be some varations as he mostly used top flight equipment with match chambers.
Some ammo does better/worse with tight/loose chambers.

I have found it to be a valuable source of information about .22lr ammo.

Because of this book I have found some very good
and fairly cheap ammo that my rifle loves without all the trial and error.

In the future I hope to get back into competitive shooting.

I think this book might give me a head start
in choosing the right match grade ammo.

A two year, thirty-two thousand round, three-hundred fifty-two page Labor of Love.

You won’t be more than a few pages into Steve Boelter's new book,
“The Rifleman’s Guide To Rimfire Ammunition” to realize that the author
put every minute of spare time and all his energies into the writing of this book.

You just can’t miss it.
This guy loves rimfires, and coming from a back ground of precision BR competition
and rimfire varminting, he was well equipped to handle the subject.

Steve’s enthusiasm for the sport runs unbridled in his writing.

It seeps into the discussion even when he’s detailing the cheapest,
bargain basement .22 round Wal Mart sells.

It’s difficult for a hardcore rimfire enthusiast like myself
to avoid getting swept up in it all.

I read The Guide in two days.
Accuracy for the buck
Quote:
He tests 90 types of 22 long rifle ammo, 5 types of shorts, 19 types WMR
ammo, one type of 17 Aguila, 3 types of 17M2, 8 types of 17HRM,
a chapter on chambers, and a chapter on barrel tuners.

This book is obviously a labor of love.

If I were to assign a technician and technical writer to the task of
compiling this data and writing this book,
I would estimate the cost to be a few hundred thousand dollars
and the schedule to be a few years.

That is more money than this book will ever make.

The difference is John Boelter's gift to the readers.
Thank you, John.

The results of Boelter's work are contained in a new book titled, Rifleman's Guide to Rimfire Ammunition.

For the rimfire rifleman, it's a must have.

The book is one of the most interesting and intriguing books ever published in the firearms field
and the only book probing the depths of the rimfire cartridge and the firearms shooting them in such detail.

Boelter's anecdotal comments associated with each test are informative
and entertaining as are the actual tables of specifications
and test results for each loading.

But there's more to the book than just a series of extensive tests.

Boelter digs into the mysteries of rimfire chambers drawing the conclusion a good barrel will always shoot,
but if the ammunition doesn't match the chamber, accuracy will be severely compromised.

Yikes,

Thanks for the kind words.

The Russian ammunition section was one of the most frustrating in that I knew there was alot of interesting Russian-made rimfire ammo, but I just could not track it down in time for the book.

When I put out my second (gonna self-publish that one), I will have alot more Russian ammo and I'm also gonna include some of the Russian rifles to test with as well.

Again, thanks and I'm glad you like it.

An EMT too! I know a lot of doctors and fellow chaplains/ministers who are as nuts as we are about guns and everything related. I wonder why that is?
