SSME: TOZ 78-05 HB, Out of Stock - Temporarily???

I was looking at the SSME website.
And, I noticed, something was missing.

TOZ 78-05 Heavy Barrel

Quote:
Models TOZ-78-05 ... have an extra heavy barrel;
they are used only with an optical sight.
So, I sent an email:
Quote:
Your website no-longer displays the TOZ 78-05 Heavy Barrel.
Is the rifle no longer for sale?
Response:
Quote:
We are currently sold out of the TOZ 78 05
and don't know when we will being getting more in stock.

Regards,
SSME Deutsche Waffen, Inc.

The good news, the rifle was selling -
why else would they be sold-out.

Among those familiar with TOZ rimfires,
who wanted a sightless 78 - this was the model to buy.

I suspect the TOZ 78-05 is a competitor
of the the Winchester Wildcat Target/Varmint .

With its tapered barrel, it was, probably, legal for
NRA Light Rifle competition
.

And, for CMP Rimfire Sporter Match shooting.

I think a lot of folks have discovered the TOZ-78. R & R Arms had it for $131 but they are sold out. I got an email from them today saying they didn't know when it would be back in stock. Bummer!

Ordered my 78-01 from peachstateguns.com. Got the last one in stock for $149. Maybe the best bang for the buck in the industry. Glad I got in why before they are no longer available for sale.

I really doubt Winchester would make a deal with Tula that didn't include some sort of exclusivity clause. They knew they couldn't compete with cheap imports like the TOZs, so they bought the rights to distribute them inside the U.S.

"SHOT SHOW-2006"
Quote:
In the course of "SHOT SHOW-2006" (USA) the representatives of TOZ conducted fruitful talks
with the dealers in the USA and Canada, Latin America, Australia and Oceania.
The participation in the show has become a tradition allowing Tula enterprise to successfully penetrate new markets.
The presentation of the small calibre carbine TOZ-78-12 that is expected to appear in the market of the USA
under the brand of "Winchester Wildcat" was especially favorable.

TOZ-78-17 - a model specially adapted for the North American market
NOTE: -17 is a typographical error, should be -12.

Looter,
You maybe correct. The TOZ-78-12 maybe exclusive to Winchester.
From the Winchester prespective, it would make "good business sense."

But, I haven't found any indication that Winchester has an agreement with "Tulsky Oruzheiny Zavod"
that will exclude all other TOZ 78 models from the U.S. market.

I haven't been able to find any information that would indicate that such an exclusion agreement exists.

If you've found any documentation that affirms the existence of such an agreement ... please post the source.

Seems that every model is Out of Stock, except the TOZ 99. Only place I found a Toz 78 was at Peachstateguns.com and it was the last one in stock. Wonder if demand has exceeded supply or production is limted? No doubt that the TOZ models maybe the best bang for the buck on the market.

Since they are basically admitting they can't compete, I doubt Winchester would publicize any such agreement.
