Green with Envy

Well even though the beech stock looked ok it was nothing spectacular so decided to practice my dyeing on it, and see what I could come up with.

So here it is after dyeing it green , and about 11 coats of tung oil.





Think I'll keep it for now till I get another wild hair.

Man, that's not bad rigrat! And I'm not one who normally goes for the "non-traditional" look, but I have to admit that in this case, I think you succeeded in upgrading your stock. It looks very unique and quite nice!

Thanks guys I know most like the traditional look and I do to, but the wood wasn't spectacular any way.

Now if it had been some really nice beech or nice figured walnut I'd of never touched it.

Looks great. Is that a Brooks ghost ring on that thing? And if so how you liking it?

Yeah thats a Brooks ghost ring , just got it a few days ago so haven't got a chance to really try it out good yet. But so far I like it.

I used Kelly green Rit Dye mixed in 70% alchohol. If I'd of had some spray poly or helmsman i would of put a couple light coats on before using the tung oil.

What that does is puts a light sealer on the dye so the tung oil doesn't muddy up the color. Using tung oil directly on top of the dye , you stand a chance of clouding (muddying up) the color.

But I wanted it to kinda blend in the woods so took a chance.
