Buy it if the price is in sync with the condition. Make sure you get the 4-round magazine, as it doesn't protrude very far below the stock and make carrying the rifle more pleasant. I wish that Marlin made the same sort of short magazine for the 17HM2 AND .22LR rifles.
The only con I've found is that some people dont care for the plastic trigger of the T-900 group. However, somebody makes an improved, metal trigger (company name escapes me at the moment). But the redeeming factor is that the safety selector is nicer compared to the older model 17.
This would be used only for plinking / paper shooting, as I dont hunt. The 7-rounders arent an issue for me.
The only thing that would make it nicer would be if it was a fluted model. I really like the looks of them. But the straight profile of this one makes it an option to cut and thread later if I decide to do that.
I was reading up on the T-900 trigger and how it was added to the 917 from the predecessor model 17. One persone said the biggest changes were the improved safety, and the new plastic trigger. I've never handled one in person, so I dont know if its true or not.
Mine is very accurate and with the fluted barrel makes the balance really nice :bthumb:
