Two reasons I'd really recommend this event. First, since it's an NRA sanctioned event you get an NRA Ranking card for Indoor 4P Conventional Smallbore. It's not good for much else other than entering NRA competitions, but hey it's cool anyway. Second, shooting an 80 shot match was a challenge but was also a lot of fun. Your heart beats just a little faster and makes it just a little harder to shoot-- experience you can't really get anywhere else.

Funny story-- a couple of new shooters entered the competition and showed up with 10/22 semi-autos. I think it's great that they signed up and came out to shoot, so don't get me wrong I'm not making fun of them. Of course you can predict what happened. One gentlemen brought a scope and shot a decent prone score even after spending half the time sighting in the scope. Going through my mind at the time was what was he going to do for offhand? Well, for the first 7 or so shots of offhand he really tried hard. I could see the barrel swaying and I know he was looking through that scope at just about every piece of the wall, but not the target. We've all been there haven't we? Well about 6 minutes into the 30 minute firing session I hear him start cracking off shots one after another-- bang, bang, bang, bang... I looked up at my buddy and said "I guess he's reached his threshold of pain". He shot the last 8 or so targets rapid fire and came off the range looking like death warmed over. It was a bit hysterical, but I give him a lot of credit for taking a crack at it.
