Pillar bedding a single screw action....

Is this a good idea?

I am talking about any of my 540/580 Remingtons except the 540X which is a two screw action already.

Would like to see if there is more accuracy that can be squeezed out of these rifles and I would like you folks to let me know what you think.

Tlarbb,

I don't see why not. Most do it on their 10/22's and see favorable results. I did my wifes WW 10/22 and it made a difference.

I would think that it would help.

If you're willing to do this job you might as well install a second action screw to guarantee positive results. Use the front triggerguard screw from a Rem 700 and drill and tap a hole located via the hole in front of the triggerguard on the 540 series. You can also bevel the hole slightly on the triggerguard to let the new screw sit a little more flush. Make sure the new screw is short enough to not interfere with the bolt's lugs.

Thanks, I may try to do the second screw thing while I'm messing with it, but I don't think it will be in the next few weeks. Maybe next spring. I'm working on deer season and my centerfires at the moment.

But I may shoot some more 13mm targets with the Rem 580 tomorrow.
