I got mine at Walley World, in the automotive section. Had been using the quick set JB weld up till last month when I found this stuff and decided to try it.

The looks of the target I shot before won't take much to see a improvement, LOL. Would just really love to see some .2 size groups or less with the bulk grade ammo.

ACE is the place! A short 6mm coarse thread set screw should fit perfectly. Just check to make sure you don't get contact between it and the factory hold down bolt when you put it back together. The ol' lipstick test should tell you whether or not you need to shorten one screw or the other.

Sophia,

Thanks for the size of the set screw, just don't have any Ace is Da Place around here. They have long disapearred, but will try the other hardware stores.

Just seems funny that they don't put one in, what would it add to the cost of the rifle maybe a dollar?

Not even that! I put one in the rear lug on my American for the same reason. Without it 1) the lug falls out when you take the rifle apart, 2) the lug shifts back and forth until you get enough torque on it to trap it, stopping wherever it is at that moment. That set screw lets me trap it in the center. Before I put in the screw I had toyed with the idea of just putting a drop of epoxy on the edge of the lug to hold it centered.

Now I should of thought of that, I could of used just a bit of blue lock tite on the bottom of it. Oh well not going anywhere now I put a little quick steel putty in the lug hole so it will be in the same place each time I reassemble it, until I get a set screw.

Got the barrel channel sanded out and the barrel re-floated.

Rigger,

what did you use for a release agent?

Rico....

Rico,

I cover the metal with tape and smear vasoline over it. Now its not the best release agent out there but with the Quik Steel you only leave the action in about 5 minutes max then pull it. That gives you just a bit of time to trim the putty if needed.

But this stuff is really easy to work with. I have found it allot easier than liquids as this stuff doesn't run all over the place like the little cracks and crevices.

thanks, Rigger,

think i will look for that stuff. maybe the runny goop stuff is why i've been hesitant to try bedding.

have you shot it since the bedding?

Rico....

Shot it a little today but haven't tried it on a paper target. Was abe to hit a 2" tomato from 75 yards. But that could of been luck, LOL.

Probably try it on paper in a bit to see if it helped any, but don't think it hurt anything.

Tried the Varmint again on paper tonight and was doing ok but not good with the x-perts. So as I never can leave well enough alone, I re-cut the crown to a 11* crown.

Groups did tighten up after doing it. Now I'll have to try it all over again with the torque settings and see what I can do on paper.

In shooting it after I was getting 3 shots almost same hole with the 4th 1/8" off. Think I have enough x-perts to try one more game target. Think I'll try the mini mags also and see if I have enough Remington subs left to make a try.

Well just call me Egor Mad scientist trainie, LOL. I've been taking notes on everything you've been doing for the last year.

Well the good thing is , it did tighten them up. I'd almost say that the shot out of the center was my fault as my rear bag is shot or otherwise pretty much dead and worthless.

I'd post my target but as I left it out side and a storm came up I'm not going to go out and get it as I'd have to use the microwave to dry it out and don't think the wife would look to kindly on that act, LOL.

I did it because of the random flyers I was getting. Wasn't being consistent, ie... first shot then 3rd , 2nd 5th , 1st, you get the picture. So figured what the heck I improved the accuracy of the Trainer by re-cutting the crown so figure why not.

Hey Rico does your 453 V have a recessed crown?

Mine did , has a 11* crown now. But the Trainer didn't have a recessed crown on it.

Ok to date mods are:

1. Lighter trigger spring.
2. Action bedded.
3. Re-cut crown with 11* crown tool.

Needed:
1. Action screws from cnelson.
2. Refinish stock, no dye, refinsih with tung oil and fill pores.
3. Make sear adjustable, or get a rifle basix trigger /or/ automation sear.
