School Me on "Good" .22LR Ammo

Log in to see fewer ads
My love of cheap/bulk ammo in mass quantities is well known around here. But suppose the mood struck me to buy maybe 500 rounds of some kind of .22LR ammo that costs MORE than 2c a shot for a change, just to see what three or four of my better rifles are really capable of. I'm not interested in THE most expensive, but what ammos are known for delivering the best accuracy for the money? And what's a good price to pay for whatever you recommend? Thanks!

Have you tried Federal AM-22's??
I know they run close to 3 cents a round..
But I have 4 10/22's, two stocker's, and two with aftermarket barrel's.
All four of them can shoot pretty decent with them..
I probebly have 14 rifle's today..
Finding something that shoot's the best in any two can be difficult..
Add to that lot variation's,especially in rimfire's, and it can be a real recipe for confusion....
LOL..
I have had a brick of Winchester Super-X, T-22 Target..
And have yet to find any of my five 22 Lr's that like it..
Even my Mk-II 512..
And that little sweetheart, eat's about anything quite well..
Good Luck With Your Quest....

Couple of my favorites. Use in my Savage Mark II G sporter barrel 10 shots covered by a dime at 50 Yds with the sub ammo and 1/2 inch easy with the PMC Zappers.

Good ammo

Get either some SK Rifle Match ($4.50/box) or some Eley Match EPS ($8.50/box). Both are great with the Eley being the better.

Is that per box of 50, or 100?

Snake-
I've been having great luck out of eley sport lately. Campion shooters has it for 15.00 for 500. It comes close to wolf MT or Sk standard plus, and groups much better than fed 510 or 714 and any rem bulk in my CZ special. With that said, wolf MT and SK standard plus are my CZ's favorite ammo and my testing standard at 30.00 for 500.

Thats per 50 ct box and that is the low end range for good ammo, top of the line target ammo goes up to as much as $15.00 bx 50 ct.
I would recommend the Wolf MT for a low end fair price, @3.50 bx 50ct, target ammo for a starting point.

That's not too bad at all, considering most of the bulk stuff is now OVER $10/500 (Winchester XPerts are now $11.58 at Walmart!). I'll look for that locally. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll look for that locally, too. Might be able to swing a few boxes.

BTW, I have at least two rifles--sometimes three--that are capable of putting at least one kind of the 2c a shot ammo into 1/2" groups at 50 yards, so I'm obviously looking for more accuracy than THAT.

SK Std Plus should fit the category you are looking for. Wolf MT is basically the same but right now, the latest lots of Std Plus seem to be shooting very well.

You have to pay 3 to 4 times the price to move up to something that is better.

If you are only ordering a few boxes, try some of the other Wolf and SK types in the same price range. You may find what your rifle prefers.

5 Shot's @ 50 Yd's.. But 10 Cent's a Pop..:(

Havent seen many stinker's ,,with that stuff..
The Wolf MT is close,, but in that rifle.. its about the same difference as between the AM-22's and MT...
Splittin Hare's...
It's a funny subject...
3 cent's for the AM-22's, 6 cent's for Wolf Match Target, 10 cent's for the Wolf Extra..
I wonder why the Wolf Match Target,,is not three times as accurate ,as the Federal AM-22's?
And if the same thing will happen, with all that ammo next year??
