And you got it. 20 yrs ago when I got mine I could hold it with a laminate stock by the trigger and it wouldn't trip...somewhere over 6# be my guess. If gold plating worked and wouldn't wear out I'd give my hammer, bolt, and trigger to a jewelry shop to get em plated.

Going on the theory that the 597 isn't a really target rifle, I took the advice of many here and added the Volquartsen hammer, free floated the barrel and sighted in and use CCI's std velocity ammo. More than pleased with the results.

I have one that would qualify as a target rifle.
