Keep in mind I'm only interested in Stainless Steel at this time.

I'm starting to think up winter projects and reevaluating my used rifles. I have always wanted a SS 17hm2 and always hoped a RAR would come but I'm sure it will never be exactly what I want so my question for all you is would a CX 455 SS 22lr with a barrel made for 17hm2 be the best bang for the buck? I've also seen RAR or 77/22 getting barrel swapped.

Is there another option I've missed?

I had my gunsmith do a RAR and a CZ455 with green mountain barrel blanks. NOT STAINLESS. What I've found is the 17gr. Keyhole somewhere between 175 and 200 yards. Not sure if the 1:9 twist is the issue or a green mountain barrel issue. I've been trying to get others to shoot out to 200 yards to see if they keep their accuracy. I think Lilja Barrels makes a 1:10 twist. Haven't heard how that works.

1:9 seems to be the norm in 17cal. I do believe a fella has been posting on his Lilja barreled CZ455 and has been frustrated with it. How do yours shoot at 100yards?

You also could re-line a .22LR to .17HM2 and take your pick of any number of suitable conversion candidates.

That is something I have thought of. Any idea on what a real world price to do so?

My guess would be $100-$150 plus liner but that's all it is, a guess. You might try PMing RFC member tfrank. He used to install liners, not sure if he still does but he'll probably be able to give you an idea of what is involved.

I have a 17 HM2 Lilja barrel for my Sako Finnfire Range coming Monday. I'll let everyone know when my write up is complete.

I was shooting 17 mach 2 through a plastic juice bottle filled with water at 160 yards from my Ruger VBZ with factory barrel a few years ago. I did not see any keyholes. What I saw was the bullets are basically like pellet gun projectiles at that range. There is no upset and I would not shoot any critter with a Mach 2 past about 125 yards. They just poked through the bottles.

My 455 w the lilja is also a favorite of mine, but unlike others on here, mine was a first production run from several years back before the DJ craze and the more recent group buy. Mine shoots fantastic

Savage made the Mark II in stainless with light and heavy barrels and with plastic and laminated stock, both pre-A/T and, I think, A/T.

Marlin made the 917M2S which is stainless with a green laminated stock.

My Marlin 917M2S shoots nearly as good as my Anschutz 1502 and my Remington 504. Being stainless, it is the 17HM2 that I take fox squirrel hunting when the weather is bad or looks like it will rain/snow while I'm out in the woods.

Do you know what they're going for used now? I'd like to find one.

I think I might have a spare new lilja 17hm2 barrel here that fits a 77 ruger.
