Marlin 2897 Annie Oakley

Upgraded my 1897 Annie Oakley with a black walnut stock set I had sitting around for over 30 years, very high grade feather crotch figure. Work done by Leroy Barry at Canyon Creek, excellent checkering by Connie. Added a Niedner steel checkered butt plate and a Skinner rear sight.

Sorry about the bad date in the heading.

Gorgeous. Makes me miss the two Texans I had. Almost too pretty to use... for me anyway.

That is a beautiful rifle! Great wood and great smithing work also. It looks so nice that to me it is a work of art so I would not ever shoot it.

Sir your rifle is so nice it would be a wall hanger if it was mine so I could see it and enjoy it every single hour of the day...just a fantastic rifle...that I too would be afraid to take it out for hunting...if I did shoot it. I would walk it to the bench and back with white gloves.

MN22LRFan sir I can honestly say your lever action rifle is the nicest one I have ever seen. . Above and beyond...just breath taking.

The more I think about it...it would be a crime to have something so nice and not shoot it. Just because you can have your cake and eat it too.

Range report

Got to the rifle range today, 25 yards, benched, Wolf Match Extra, Skinner iron sights. 1" squares and in process of zeroing in. Two 6X groups. Reduced trigger pull spring of 4#, still not easy with old eyes. Oh and found the original wood set sales receipt, it was from 1982, and a cost of $125 ! Not any more.
