I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'm still sanding on the barrel channel to free float the barrel.

This 17HM2 came with a nice piece of wood and shoots fantastic with the factory barrel so I left most of it alone. The only thing I did was swap out the high rings that came with it for some medium rings, top it off with a fixed 6x42mm, and a bit of trigger tuning with a Lansky knife sharpener and the tips I found here. Down the road I might convert to 22lr, but not as long as the HM2 ammo stays cheap.

Got to shoot it yesterday - haven't free floated the barrel yet but I figured I would see how well it shoots before I messed with it.

I was able to get it sighted in on an old piece of plywood that I use to hang my targets. Once sighted in, I was shooting at a spinner target my Uncle made for me. It has 4 different sized metal plates, the smallest being the size of a dime. I was able to hit the smallest plate 10 for 10 from about 50 yards. I think I will leave it alone for now.....

I might be able to shoot for groups sometime this weekend.

Jack that sounds great. if its shooting that good leave it be. Once I heard you were working on this I got interested. I don't own a 17HM2 but now I may have to do the barrel switch.

I was certainly surprised because the barrel is tighter in the barrel channel than what the factory barrel was. I had to slightly "press" it in to get it to fit properly.

Here is my ultimate 77/17hmr. I have had it done for a couple of months and I absolutely love it. Definately my favorite rifle and it has seen quite a bit of action as of late.
The mods are Richards stock, Jard trigger, GM octagonal 22" barrell and a Leupold VX-II 4-12X40.

Awesome rifle, that will be along for the ride no matter what I am after.

Here is my Ultimate and it's big brother.

Trigger jobs on both, glass bedding, Leupold glass and (not in this picture) stainless sling swivels and studs.

Yoffione, if this was a car show, I'd say you won. That's a beautiful looking rifle. Of course there are lots of spectacular looking rifles posted - nice guns all.

My .22mag I built up. Originally it was a 17/77 with the plastic boat paddle.

Originally a 77/22 mag VMBZ.
I installed a Volquartsen .17 HMR THM Tension 16-1/4" Carbon Fiber Barrel, Timney 2-1/2 lb Sear, Skeeter v-block, sanded out the barrel channel and pilar/glass bed using the flanged pilar bedding technique adapted from here.
