marlin 99

Hello I found a marlin 99 for sale and wondering if it is worth the asking price. Price is $100, but it has a few things I've never seen before so I was hoping to find some information.

1. The side and top of the receiver are drilled and tapped. There is a peep site mounted on the side, was being drilled and tapped a factory option for side/top of receiver?

2. Butt plate is broken, will a model 60 butt plate work on a model 99?

3. Stock has a white/black where a sling stud should go, is this factory and why is it there?

4. Gun store employee said the fore arm might have been slimmed up, was this factory? The finish seemed to be the same.

Thanks for any help.

1. The early models were drilled and tapped for a receiver sight.

2. Fairly certain that a Model 60 butt plate would fit with minor trimming.

3. Marlin Bullseye on most Marlin firearms with walnut stocks. A trademark of sorts.

4. I think the gun store employee is wrong.

If it's in decent shape, buy it. You don't see many Marlins these days with walnut stocks.

Aaand the 'bullseye' is NOT for sling mounting. It just denotes the stock as factory walnut.

I carry $100 bill in my wallet reserved for any Marlin rimfires I come across. I would have hurt my arm trying to get it out as fast I could. Go buy it, a walnut stocked 99 is a find.

It's only been 30 hours, but he's on the clock.
