SR22 Ammo Query

Hi - (regular reader but infrequent poster in this forum)

I lucked out and got some 22 ammo at BassPro.

It is Remington Yellow Jacket HP ( rated at 1500 fps at the muzzle).

I'm wondering if this is safe to shoot in my SR22.

Thanks,
-Ray

I don't know about the sr 22 specifically but most pistols I've seen say no hyper velocity ammo. I bet you can find the owners manual online if you don't have one.

I have shot Remington yellow jackets thru my sr22 without incident. I would be concerned on an older weapon which has the original takedown lever. There was a period when the takedown lever was prone to failure. The takedown lever is the slide stop. Sometime ago the lever was breaking. Someone who is more knowledgeable than I am can perhaps recall the dates or serial numbers affected.

Nope, that ammo is terribly unsafe. I'll send you my mailing address right away so it can be properly "disposed" of. :-)

Yeah but there's not much point. Well, unless you shoot at an indoor range and enjoy the great ball of green, blue, and orange fire that'll be the excess powder that's still burning after the bullet leaves the muzzle.

That's kinda cool (heh heh).

That's kind of why I like Federal GameShok out of the SR22. Nice beach-ball sized muzzle flash indoors.

it doesn't say it specifically, it says to use high velocity ammo only, no subsonics etc. but like i said it does not say no hypersonic. I wouldn't do it.

Ruger's pistols that are not meant to shot hyper velocity ammo clearly state that. The SR doesnt specify anything drectly in regard to hyper velocity. This topic has been covered mutiple times. Consensus among those reading the manual and a few inquires directly to Ruger indicate that it is fine in the SR. Mine has had no issues after many rounds of 1640fps Stingers.

I have shot Yellow Jackets and Aguila Interceptors Out of my SR22 with no problems. Pretty nasty little beggars!
