Ratanator needs to re-read our TOS regarding language and the treatment of other users. He's going to have a little time to do this.

Laminate stocks don't bother me.... I like the stability.... with that said I would love to see a something "really differant"..... perhaps a full stock, slimmed down thumbhole with real walnut... 20" barrel with a slightly slimmer profile than a varmint.... it's nice to dream

Five years ago, someone at CZ-USA told me that CZ did not make 527 Varmints in .223 in Walnut. Several days later, I drove to Whittaker Guns and purchased one. I'm sure Whittaker bought it from CZ-USA. I'm sure that CZ-USA didn't lie to me. The person I spoke to was mistaken (forgot or didn't know) but not lying.
People have a tendency to take what they hear or read as fact. And doing so needn't turn into an internet argument between those that read, hear, and "know" different things.

Is the barrel the same on both versions of the varmint?

I would assume they put the same barrel and action in different stock. Both (.22 452 Varmint and Thumbhole Varmint) are 20.9" and 1:16 twist. Both .17's are 20.9" and 1:9.

The only reason I asked is because I noticed that the website doesn't mention if the thumbhole version has the heavy barrel. I guess it probably does.

They don't, and if you're new to CZ's, you wouldn't necessarily know that's what they mean by "Varmint."

Did you ever talk to Jason about it?

I'm thinking some of you fine fellows are not looking closely enough at the information near the top of the list of firearms on Jason's sight.

His list is not what he has in stock, it says to me that these are the rifles that CZ makes. He doesn't infer that he has any of these in inventory.

Regards Greg

The Thumbhole Varmint is one of those rifles that I can't make up my mind if I like it or not.
