I keep thinking of what could be built, I know the fella on the 5mm forum did a CZ as a single shot, so I got to looking at repeaters and the strongest action out the seems to our Australian made Lithgow 101 crossover

3 rear locking lugs made in 17 HMR & 22 Magnum so one of these magazine should feed

let the debate begin

Try a 5mm in the magazine. They are fatter and shorter than 17HMR or 22WMR.
Base diameter for 5mm is .320" length is 1.260"
22WMR and 17HMR is .290" length is 1.317
Look at bolt face and firing pin location. Might work?

The Lithgow uses a CZ magazine, if anyone has one and a couple of 5mm rounds could they check against the 22 mag & 17 HMR

Unfortunately I live some hours from a dealer so I can't just pop into a store and check but golly if that magazine could be tuned I can't see why it would'nt work.

One thing that concerns me is I read the rim of the 5mm has to be completely enclosed this explains the weird way the 591/592 extract I guess but if one was built on a CZ I really can't see why this much stronger action would'nt work

You heard correct. The brass on the 5mm rimfire ammo is weak for the chamber pressure. Even when fired from a single shot TC Contender, the brass will have a deformation where the extractor is because it wasn't fully supported. The centerfire conversions tend to have heavier walled brass (either converted 22 Hornet or made from raw stock) and I haven't had the deformation problems with them.

I had the Schroeder conversion, bolt head, dies & cases but sold it on because it was a problem in the 592, I would have had to alter the feed lips and I was worried that would effect feeding of rim fire ammo.

Ive been looking for some time to find a rifle that would make a better rifle than the em 592, ive got a H&R 157 the full wood model in 22 magnum and was looking at doing a stub barrel fit up, but the Lithgow just looks like it would work

Did someone here add a second action screw to a 591 or 592 Curious to see how it was done

Thanks for trying that for me, modifying magazines can become a huge issue. Talking some others over here all pretty much agreed if that magazine feeds and I want to spend the dollars this rifle would work just fine

The 592 is easy to convert to two action screws, the front barrel lug and the rear for the 592, should have a tapped hole in bottom front of the receiver ala 591. Just have to drill the stock, but that 591 action screw is an issue unless you know someone that can make one. A flat socket head allen screw might work. Also this only works if you are willing to remove the feed tube.

Thanks for the tip on the extra screw will pull it down when I get back from the hideaway, hoping to get a few rabbits this trip instead of just working on the old house
