Beautiful rifle, not sure about the "Cabelas" description, though... (weight: 5 lbs, 22" fluted barrel?) Wouldn't mind owning that one for sure. That grain in the buttstock is a little weird, though... Almost looks like two different pieces of wood?

Smart move. I want hands on before the money comes out of my pocket. I traveled almost 6 hours total back and forth to meet a guy to purchase a Cooper JSR and it was worth it. The rifle was everything he said it was and frankly more. No skin off my nose or his. Now I'll do business with him sight unseen.

If I am buying over the net and dont know the seller I ask for at least a 3 day after delivery non shooting inspection unless I know the seller. I'll pay the freight both ways iffin its a gudun….

Just sayin.

Around 1986 my brother had an FFL. We both bought new Anschutz silhouette rifles. He bought the 64 action model and it was about $500 I bought the 54.18 MS single shot for about 750$. It was a year or two later when my same rifle came out in a repeater model. Neither rifle had the large Anschutz name on the side. A few years later for some reason all of Anschutz rifle's went way up in price almost double. I heard it was because they de-valued our dollar.
Anschutz's distribution system has always been a mess in my opinion and maybe still is.

I have a 54.18 MS i picked up at the Rod and Gun Club at Bitburg AFB back in the 80's. It still shoots better than many high dollar custom guns and I wouldn't sell it period. Back in the BR 50 days I used it to compete in the G-Line and shot well enough to have a reasonable ranking nationally. I don't miss the magazine at all.

Oh, I think out the door was about $280.00 in Germany.

What's the barrel length on your 54.18? 35 years later not much has changed with these 54 action Anschutz's. The key to any rifles accuracy is barrel quality and bolt lock up.
I've had several Rem 22LR 40X's that shot like an Anschutz but Remington only produced them from their custom shop, big mistake. Basically a 700 costing 3 or 4 time as much as a off the shelf 700 centerfire. I'm off topic, sorry.
