Rem factory 30 round clear mag questions

do these mags run reliably for you all? can you actually fit 30 rounds in them?

Most high cap mags don't do well and those that do have been taken apart and all the plastic burrs, flaws and wotnot cut or filed off and often lubed with a dry-lube. Good luck with yours.

I have the black factory 30 round mag and I have had zero issues. Most of the time I only load 25 rounds for our club shoot, but the few times that I have loaded 30 it was a tight fit.

I've learned in competitions you never load a magazine to it's full listed capacity. When target practicing, I used the fully loaded magazine and loaded it when the bolt was locked open. The first issue I had in competition I loaded a fully loaded magazine when the bolt was closed. It was impossible to compress the rounds far enough to get the mag to lock into position. Now, I always run magazines with 2-3 rounds down minimum.

i'll have to look for some black 25 round ones. my two clear ones aren't worth the bother. they don't fit the mag well very well. they don't feed reliably. they fail to hold the bolt open on the last round.

the new black metal ones from Remington (10 round), however, have been superb. even better than the keep shooting ones i have.

I learned 52 yrs ago to never fully load the 20 round mags for the M16.
When it dawned on me the rf primer is a totally different animal than cf primers I quit rapping rf mags to seat the rounds all the way rearward in the mags.

I struggled with the fully loaded mag in competition. After the course of fire was over, I went back to my seat and there were 3 ex-military competitors surrounding me to help diagnose the problem. They all said the same thing, never load it to 30 rounds. A good learning experience for me. Actually, it wouldn't have mattered if the bolt was locked open but the course of fire required loading a new mag even though the old one still had rounds in it.

I've never had any luck with those 30 round magazines. Ever. I sure wish Remington would make a "BX-25" esq magazine for the 597.

However given the history of magazine issues Remington has had with the 597, I'm not surprised that the 30 rounders are less than reliable. (at least in my experience!)
