Beretta Model 80 Olympic

Here is what I consider the coolest Beretta I've ever owned and one I've never seen before a few days ago. This pistol is chambered in 22 Short. The ergonomics are extremely comfortable and the trigger is very light. They even ported the muzzle not that a 22 Short has much recoil. It must have been designed for some sort of rapid fire competition. Now I need some extra mags and an owners manual.

Interesting... Never seen one of them either!
- Good luck in your quest for a spare magazine... because yes, it's bound to be a quest...

It was designed for the Olympic "rapid fire" event, back when they still allowed 22 shorts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k9oedJeNac

* Edit *

Had to look it up, it was manufactured from 1962 to 1977, production a little over 1,100 pistols... Wonder how many variation there are?
- On fleabay, regular model 80 22lr magazines are over $150 and 22shorts are over $200...
There is one right now listed for "Beretta 80 "Olimpic"" but it doesn't look anything like yours.

SillyMike thanks for the YouTube video explaining the competition. I can see why these pistols are so specialized. I finally got mine out to the range but only had two brands of 22 Short ammunition, some Winchester and CCI standard velocity. Had a few failures to feed and a few bad rounds without priming compound. Here are 2 short videos I made.

You might want to try to locate some RWS or Eley 22 short... as that's probably what the guys at Beretta had in mind when they designed the pistol.

Nice video!

I just found some Lapua 22 Short ammunition and will try that next. I don't think Eley makes 22 Short Match ammo anymore. Also thanks to a gentleman on the Beretta Forums I now know how to field strip the Model 80 and it couldn't be easier.

In my quest to find out more information on these Model 80s I found this book with a whole small chapter on it. Now I'm looking for more books on Berettas to see if the Model 80 is referenced. According to Woods book there were only 1100 produced and they were all hand made.
