Bob4BVM has described exactly what I use for bullet traps and how I use them.

I used to use 11" thick sand bullet traps, but as Bob posted, a 4" (2X4 frame) will stop almost anything and is much lighter.

I have been using this kind of trap for about 45 years. When I lived in the suburbs and didn't want to go to the range for a little quick shooting, I pulled down the garage door and shot into a sand trap diagonally across the garage using my table saw for a shooting bench.

I live on 40 acres now but still use the sand traps.

Kilerham, here are links to what I used. I used about 10 of the 1 lbs blocks to fill with cause that's all they had at the time. Not sure if this is the exact box I used, but it gives you the idea. I just left the front panel with the door off. I can grab a pic when I get home.

Why not build your bullet trap with AR 500 ,no sand or mulch needed .If you need to it can be brought inside on a daily basis .Am I missing something here?
