I know this has been kicked around in the past but I cant find it.

How is the best way to clean the sticky junk off a take off 40x stock prior to sanding??

Finishing was recommended to use BC Tru-oil.. do not want a varnish/lacquer finish when completed. Is tru-oil varnishy??or more like linseed oil finish?

All suggestions appreciated.

You may want to try mineral spirits and 0000 steel wool. If that doesn't do it you may want to try a product like Formby's furniture refinisher. Tru-oil is a shiney finish when done but more durable and waterproof than boiled linseed oil. If the gloss is objectionable you can hit it with 0000 steel wool when dry to kill the shiney finish.

I always approach these projects with the least invasive method first and progress toward more invasive methods last.
