Scheduling gunsmithing work

Log in to see fewer ads
I'm getting a paycheck again, so it's time to have some work done on my (3) 10/22s. I know I want trigger work done and probably the bolts radiused.

My questions are:
What kind of work should I get done? The rifles are used mainly for Appleseeds.

Are there any smiths who will let me reserve a place in the queue by sending payment and then, immediately after an Appleseed, ship the parts in? I don't get to do much shooting at Appleseeds these days, but I do want to have loaners available.

This is also and invitation for the various gunsmiths to contact me if they like, I won't consider it spam.

Yeah, I sort of figured I would wind up going with SwampFOX for the trigger group work. Not a big surprise.

I was sort of hoping to find someone who would also do the various bolt rework stuff at the same time. Since that's not on Swampy's menu, I'll just have to go somewhere else. Any recommendations?

After watching a 7 year old really struggle with cycling the bolt, radiusing the bolt looks like a good idea. What other changes do folks recommend?

I have access to a milling machine, so I may just see about picking up a roundover cutter and doing it myself. Any particular radius that I should go for?

Ok, I shipped my trigger groups to SwampFOX and my bolts to [email protected] over lunch today. I hope I get them back before the next Appleseed.

The bolts were returned today, much faster than I expected. Thanks, Randy!

I haven't been nagging Swampy about the trigger groups, because I don't want to nag him andf I'm not in that big of a hurry. I'm sure he will do excellent work and get them back to me in due time.

Your groups are finished except for testing which will probably be done tomorrow.

My trigger groups showed up today. The one from a really old 10/22 that had massive amounts of slack and a really terrible and hard break feels much better now. Swampy made a huge improvement.

Big Appleseed weekend ahead, I'm waiting to see if any of the instructors contact me about helping out (I'm an Instructor In Training). Maybe all three rifles will get some use.
