Tikka hums

Just shot a new T1x in 17 hmr. I notice a zingy hum in the rifle when it shoots. Does anyone else have this with the Tikka? I also have Savage and CZ in 17hnr and do not have this sound.

I have not noticed this with mine. Maybe its the ear protection.

Doesnt happen with other rifles, same ear protection. Will adjust action screw torque to see if that helps.

My Kidd/Lilja 10/22 used to ring when I had it in a Boyd's thumbhole stock. I put it in a KRG Bravo and it went away.

I thought stock. I have broken down and adjusted action screw torque. Will shoot again on sandbags rather than rest. Obviously harmonics. Also I only shot 17g. Will try 20g. Thanks for your input.

Update. After trying both 17 and 20 gr ammo, re mounting and torquing all optics and stock parts and action screws, shooting on rest and offhand. I still get a harmonic zing.
Took it to Scheels gunsmith. He says that it does have this defect and it hums like a tuning fork. Out of the stock and holding the barrel you can tap the trigger and get the harmonic sound and vibration. Also vice versa. We are sending it to Sako for their attention to this. Ill be shooting CZ and Savage 17 for a while. Prairie dogs next week.

I would never think of returning a rifle for such a reason- especially these days with widespread shipping problems. If it has respectable accuracy I would restock it or fill the butt stock with foam. In these times, one has to be thankful just for an opportunity to acquire a firearm. I just got a T1X in January and have not noticed anything such as what you describe, nor would it concern me if was a decent shooter.
You could also add on a Limbsaver Barrel Dampener which would allow you to adjust the harmonics.

That is why they/we call the 17 HMR a "HUMMER"

Shot 1-1.5 inches at 100yds. Since both my CZ 455 American and Savage 93R17 will outshoot that, I thought Id give Sako/Tikka a chance to compete. My thinking is that what I get back will be a real shooter. If not it will go down the road.

Only rifles I own that hum are .556 with a Vortex flash hider. Excellent flash suppression but hums like a tuning fork between shots. Not a problem for me.

I agree. Shipping and scarcity be %%%%ed. The rifle should be right, and Tikka needs to make it so.
