There were two shooters using M-52 repros in the Winchester M-52 only Postal Match last year. One was a Heavy Barrel Sporter and the other was the Standard Barrel Sporter.

Both did very well at 50 and 100 yds.

The Heavy Barrel Sporter shot at 50 yds. came in 5th. for group at .281 and 5th. for score at 98-4-X. It was not shot at 100 yds.

The Standard Barrel Sporter shot at 50 yds came in 6th. for group at .283 and second for score at 100-7-X, very good indeed.

The Standard Barrel Sporter shot at 100 yds came in 5th. for group at 1.176 and 5th. for score at 97-1-X.

Records are keep of the Scopes, Sights, Ammo, etc., etc., used by the shooters and are available to all the shooters.

This years M-52 only event will start May 1st. and go on till Oct. 30th. hopefully more repros will enter, if enough enter they may have a separate Sporter category for them, but as it is now there being shot against the M-52 Target rifles and are not doing bad at all.
Harry P.
Sounds like fun but not sure that will tell us what we need to know as far as what ammo was used and weather conditions etc. I will be more then happy to participate . Don't think it is good to compete sporters again target 52's, but like you said if we get enough interest with the sporters maybe start sporter class. Thanks for the info and please post when this takes place along with the rules..

Yes it was a lot of fun, and that's the whole idea behind it. Having fun shooting your 52, doesn't matter if it's an original or a copy as long as it's a Rifle on the Winchester M-52 platform, even the H & R 5200's are welcome.

What is it that you need to know ?. Just about everything is listed in the equipment listing. Ammo, Scopes, type barrels, etc., etc.
If there's something else you think should be listed let them know and I'm sure they could put it on the survey sheet.

As to the weather there's not much that anyone can do about that, the match is shot all across the country so the weather will be different in different States, but the nice thing about Postal events is that the shooter can pick the nicest day to shoot.

I'm not sure that the sporters cant keep up with the target rifles, there were about 15 shooters in the event, two of them shot new sporters, one of the sporter shooters came in second at 50 yds with a 100-7-X that's very good for a sporter, first place was 100-9-X, fired with a
52-C Target Rifle, only two X's better than the sporter, I would say that's very good shooting for a sporter, and it was done with the skinny barrel sporter, not the heavy barrel one.
Both sporter shooters came in about 5th in both the 50 and 100 yd events. Not bad out of about 15 shooters.

But I agree, it would be nice to have a separate class for the sporters and if at least 5 entered the event that could possibly be done.

I'm new to this group - but just received a repro sporter, and would love to be one of the "atleast 5" to help create a separate class.

Thats fantastic Sax. Maybe we have something going here. Maybe H.M.Pope knows who to talk to on this matter. Any other 52 owners want to show their support of this postal match ? Come on spring, I am ready to start shooting. Thanks Sax

Hi Sax and WIN-52, and anyone else interested in shooting this event.
Check out the Winchester M-52 group at:

www.groups.yahoo.com/group/Model_52

Any and all questions can be asked about the shoot on that site.

Targets will be sent out May 1 st. and everything will be posted on the M-52 site.

All the records, photos of the record targets , the equipment that was used last year is also posted on the M-52 site at this time.
Good shootin to ya and hope you keep em in the X ring.

Just arrived. NIB, never fired. I included photos of the box end to get the serials and box numbers for database, etc... This beauty is in perfect condition, except for one small scuff mark on stock, near trigger area. Small price to pay for owning one of these !! ps...the small debris on closeup of receiver is stryo from the box...

Congratulations Sax on your beautiful 52B. If it shoots as well as mine you are in for a lot of fun. I see your S-number is just a few before mine (BS1764). How do you like your bench rest? I have been thinking about buying one? I have read pros and cons about the caldwell rest. Some say they are not tight and wobble. Have fun with 52...win-52

WIN 52 --This is my first ever benchrest, so I am no expert. I did a lot of research, and purchased it as an 'entry level' rest. Paid I think 129.00 including shipping. It came with an unfilled bag wish I need to fill for additional flexibility in the field. It has been -20 in these parts lately, so sadly, haven't been able to pop her virgin barrel yet (pardon my horrid analogy)...When I picked this up....I also picked up a 1949 52B. http://s1299.beta.photobucket.com/us...ester%2052%20B

Saxmaneagle,

Thanks for Posting the Winchester/Browning Model 52 Reproduction Serial Number information.

I spotted a Winchester Model 52 Repro at a local gun show today. It looked to be in near "new" condition and the price on the rifle was $799. The Serial Number was BS5135.

New low Browning 52 BA Serial #

I just ran across a new low serial number for the BA series of Browning 52s. It is BA098NZ496. There is a picture of it in the July 1992 Shooting Times magazine article on the Brownings when they were first introduced.
Maybe the BAs were pre-production models.
