Vintage Remington Match .22lr?

Hello all.

I have been bit by the curiosity bug, again.

I own a very early (1940) Remington 513t Match Master and I have been doing a bit of research on what kinds of Remington match ammunition were offered at the time, so I can try finding said ammo to "complete" my period setup. I have found plenty of information on Winchester match rifles being offered in advertisements along with their EZXS match ammo, but have not found much for Remington in the 1940s.

Any help would be appreciated.

Eddie.

Remington would have offered Remington "Match" or "Rifle Match" as part of their .22 product line. Art Cook used Remington Rifle Match to win the Olympic Gold Medal in the Men's 50 Meter prone match at the 1948 London Olympics. He shot a Remington Model 37 prone rifle which was equipped with a Brown barrel bedding device. You can view this rifle in the NRA museum.

Remington "Match" ammo

I would guess that the ammo would be the Red PALMA box with the product code of R54PM and were loaded with LESMOK powder. They were made from 1933 up to WWII. After WWII. Then came the Green Dog Bone PALMA 54P that was made in the early 1930's which was a SMOKELESS loading with the product code on the bottom left corner on the box top. The code number on the Dog Bone PALMA was moved to the center right on the box top in about 1934 or 1937 (depending on who you talk to) , this Dog Bone continued till 1942. After WWII the PALMA green Dog Bone was re-coded to number 6222 and was made from 1946 till 1952.

After 1952 the first Remington "MATCH" box was produced. It had the 1/2 green and 1/2 red top and had a product code of 6622. In 1955 or 1956 (depending on who you talk to) the name was changed to "RIFLE MATCH" . Then came the child warning "RIFLE MATCH"box in 1962.

So you could either use a Red PALMA that used LESMOK powder, or the second issue Dog Bone green box that used SMOKELESS powder to be period correct for 1940.
