Drove down to our not-flooded range for some off-hand practice. We've got our State air rifle silhouette match two weekends from now so I need to keep up with my air rifle practice. Shot these after the 25 and 50-yard challenge targets.

Practice: TQ-14 50-foot paper, outdoors
Date: 9-3-17

Target Rifle:
Anschutz 2002 SuperAir
Weaver V-16 scope @ 16X
JSB 7.33 pellets

Round #1:
Chickens - 7
Pigs - 6
Turkeys - 5
Rams - 7
TOTAL - 25

Round #2:
Chickens - 4
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 6
TOTAL - 21

Sporter/Open Rifle:
Air Arms TX200
Weaver V-24 @24X
JSB 10.34 pellets

Round #1:
Chickens - 5
Pigs - 8
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 4
TOTAL - 21

Round #2:
Chickens - 5
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 2
TOTAL - 18

I used the official scoring method for these paper targets where at least half of the pellet has to be on the animal to count as a hit. Had I counted any edge hit I would have had 12 more points across all four targets.

What's more important to me is I got out there and shot two rounds with each rifle. I need the practice!

Temps in the mid 70's, no wind, hardly a cloud in the sky.

You have been pretty quiet this month, Allen. Hope you weathered the storm O.K.

We made it out just fine but our silhouette range is still under 10 feet of water. Been going to our other range (which has no silhouette targets) and shooting the 25-yard and 50-yard off-hand challenge. It's good practice until we can get back on the silhouette range.

Also, the club postponed the state air rifle silhouette match until December so I won't have to squeeze in my air rifle practice as much as I had been.

There's a regular smallbore match at the range down south of town the weekend after next (the 23rd) so I'll have some official scores to post then.

Lastly, and more importantly, your 21 is better than your normal average so congratulations on the good score!

I'll take it!

Sporter/Open Rifle:

Chickens - 3 (grr...)
Pigs - 5
Turkeys - 7
Rams - 7

I should have taken more practice shots with my shorter to get back into the groove on how this rifle likes to be shot. It's so picky about how I hold it but once I find that sweet spot it shoots very well.

Shot these after two rounds of 50-yard targets and one of the 25-yard targets for the Off-hand challenge.

Haven't shot a real smallbore silhouette match in two months and my scores definitely shows it. No excuses other than being rusty with my silhouette mindset and forgetting to follow through on a bunch of shots.
