Here is another option, have one on a 22 Mag and works great, a Nikon Monarch 3 5-20x44 side focus matte, plex. Only consideration may be the side focus parallax only goes down to about 50 yards:

I have found that the scopes that only focus down to 50 yards are not as clear and sharp to my eyes as a scope that will focus to 10-15 yards. That is my experience anyway your eyes are probably better than mine. There are better choices for me anyway.

Not sure where you are buying your glass, but you can get the Swarovski for around $100 more than the Leupold and you do get much better light transmission.

Uhhhhmmmm, he bought a Cooper rim fire ....so he either played retail or $1400-$1700 on the secondary market which indicates a budget that most wouldn't consider "limited". Not to mention the fact that if you are going to spend that much on a rifle and then go cheap on the glass would make one wonder why he spent that much on a rifle...

This is my early .22LR Model 36 Custom Classic. It regularly shoots 3/4" groups at 100 yards with this cheap Bushnell 4X scope. Why should I spend an obscene amount on a high power Leupold scope that will add weight and will preclude shooting offhand with my 78 year old arms which I do almost every day

I've done just fine with Weaver V16's. Focus down to 30' and click values are reliable and holds zero.
