Air rifle Silhouette match at the club today.

Match #1, Club match, NRA Air Rifle resettables, yards
Date: 9-2-18

Round #1, Target Rifle:
Class: AAA
Anschutz 2002 SuperAir
JSB Diablo Exact RS (7.33) pellets
Weaver T-24

Chickens - 6
Pigs - 6
Turkeys - 5
Rams - 3
TOTAL - 20

Switchy winds gave everybody fits.

Round #2, Sporter Rifle:
Class: Master
Air Arms TX200 Mk-III
Weaver V-24 @ 24X
Air Arms Field Heavy (10.34) pellets

Chickens - 6
Pigs - 10
Turkeys - 9
Rams - 4
TOTAL - 29

Started on Rams and really hit my stride on Pigs and Turkeys.

Round #3, Open Rifle:
Class: AAA
TX200 again.

Chickens - 8
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 7
Rams - 6
TOTAL - 28

Just as we brought our rifles to the line the clouds opened up and rained on us. It calmed the wind down quite a bit but it was hard to see the Rams through the rain.

Wednesday night smallbore practice before our regular club match this Saturday.

Oh boy, here it goes...

Club match, NRA steel, meters
Date: 9-5-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~32X
SK Standard Plus

Match #1, Standard Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 10
Pigs - 10
Turkeys - 8
Rams - 7
TOTAL - 35

Started on Turkeys, ended on Pigs. Almost no wind to worry about. Everything felt just right and somehow it all fell into place.

This is my very first Master score in any smallbore match; 35 beats my previous PR by four points; and this is the first time I've ever gotten two ten-in-a-row in the same match for anything.

Match #2, Hunter Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 5
Pigs - 9
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 9
TOTAL - 27

I started on Pigs, began to falter on Turkeys, kept it together for Rams, but fell apart on Chickens. All the sloppy mistakes I usually make came creeping back in and pulled me back down to reality from my previous score.

I'll have a regular report after the match on Saturday.

Our regular monthly club match.

Club match, NRA steel, meters
Date: 9-8-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~32X
SK Standard Plus

Match #1, Standard Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 7
Pigs - 10
Turkeys - 4
Rams - 4
TOTAL - 25

Match #2, Hunter Rifle
Class: AAA

Chickens - 8
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 8
Rams - 5
TOTAL - 28

I got a call yesterday from the match director asking if I would run the match, something I haven't done before, but I did my best and everyone seemed happy with it. My performance took a bit of a hit from Wednesday's practice, sloppy (or complete lack of) follow-through was my biggest issue.

Couldn't figure out why I was missing Pigs because my shots were solid, but the backstops were kind of shot up and I couldn't see my misses. Got done with the second bank and went to change my scope for Turkeys... I had mistakenly set my scope 1 full MOA low and was hitting the Pigs low in the belly and legs. Stupid mistake on my part.

Smallbore match on the south side of town this Saturday. Will post score afterward.

As soon as we started to shoot the first bank (Chickens) I had two large wasps that decided they were very interested in what I was doing. Usually I can ignore one that's passing by but not this time. Absolutely killed my Chicken score.

Class: AAA

Chickens - 8
Pigs - 7

Rams - 4

We have big thunderstorms rolling through the Houston area all weekend long. Luckily it only drizzled and dripped on us a little bit during the match today.

We had heavy clouds and light rain almost all practice. The rain kept the wind down (for the most part) but we skipped going down-range to paint between matches. Also, during the last match it was getting very dark with the clouds covering the sky.

No excuses for this one. Weather was perfect, mid to upper 50's, overcast with no wind.
