I hope that you used a nontoxic bullet on that Mallard.

Smile Range report 3

Probably put another 100 rounds down range today. 1 dead trigger. This time I *DID* investigate. Turns out the bolt didn't close by about millimeter or such. I slapped the back of the bolt closed and it set the trigger and fired the rest of the magazine just fine. I believe the gun was pretty dirty at that point so I swabbed it out and put several more mags through it without a problem.

I still haven't taken the gun apart to clean it. I've just been swabbing and cleaning with a Q-tip. When I do take it apart for a good cleaning I'll see if there's a burr somewhere that's gunking-up with dirt and making the bolt stick a little when it's dirty.

Other than that minor issue, I LOVE THIS PISTOL! What a dream to shoot. It's chewing up ammo so fast. Thank goodness for 550 Fed bulk packs.

Thanks to all who recommended the Victory it is a great gun.

My favorite ammo thru the first 1800 rounds, was Aguila Pistol Match. Odd surprise today at Speed Steel. I've been practicing 1x or 2x weekly the last month, and was ready as of Friday, with very reliable feeding. Maybe 1 or 2 fail to extract per 150 rounds. Got it all dialed in ready for match time.

First 3 magazines every other round was 'fail to extract'. Changed to back up Roooger, it too had same issue on previously reliable ammo.

Withdrew from match. Went to practice bay, loaded with Old Reliable copper washed 1240fps ammo, no problem, both fire thru 4 magazines without issue. Too late to rejoin my shooting squad though.

The temp today was about 25*-35* below where it was the last couple weeks. Don't know whether that's related, but something sure made a problem with slide function on 2 otherwise very reliable pistols. IIRC the Aguila Pistol Match is running something at the low-low end of 'Standard velocity'.

Any ideas?

JeeperJake, on my Victory I had occasional fail to fire and fail to eject until I stripped bolt completely down and cleaned firing pin, extractor etc. Its been flawless ever since. I do not go to that extent of cleaning every time though.
Last week I shot my Victory 4 times using Aguila se SV and averaged 575 shots each of the 4 outings without 1 hickup.

Is this failure to extract a loaded round or a fired round.
If it is fired clean the gun and test if still a problem then change ammo.

A loaded round is different change ammo the bullet may be engaging the rifling than test or better yet pull the barrel and drop a round in the chamber if that is ok.
Then change the extractor. The main thing is do a thorough cleaning and make sure there is no carbon ring.

I have 750 through mine and the first 300 were CCI SV no hiccups. I have found if I use American ammo it's CCI only nothing else. Any thing else is Eley,SK,or Lapua. This is what I have narrowed my choices to I don't wast my money or time with anything else.

appreciate the ideas on solving the problem;

As I recently had 'smith replace the trigger and extractor with TDK stuff, and gun is thoroughly clean, AND 'same issue' with a 2nd otherwise absolutely reliable Mk II Ruger, I suspect ammo somehow at issue.

The change to CCI SV yielded zero malfunctions in 4 mags each. No cleaning, etc.

The odd thing is my SW22 has been devouring bricks of Pistol Match Aguila.

Will be revisiting the various potential causes. We are slipping into actual Fall temps now.

Usually I run S&W 617 revolver in the Speed steel. Now I remember why.

When the temp gets into the 20s here CCI SV can be finicky feeding. Then I switch to oil type lube Wolf or SK.

I'm unfamiliar with these products. Can you provide link or photo of box or product ID # so I might explore availability locally?

One thing that I don't see mentioned much regarding the Victory is the magazines. I really like them, they are very easy to reload and they appear to be made of stainless steel? Anyway, that's just another part of the Victory that I really like.

yes, good call on the magazines; I had to get spares from http://gregcotellc.com/cart/

The S&W factory declined my attempt to purchase as "all such small parts are reserved for supplying new pistol sales"....What????

If I could get my money out of my Ruger MKIV it would be gone and replaced with another Victory. The only thing the Ruger has over the S&W is easier take down. The Victory trigger is so much better than Rugers out of the box it's not funny. The smith dosen't need $150.00 worth of parts to give you a a decent trigger plus it is also cheaper.
