T/C Contender scope suggestions

Log in to see fewer ads
Greetings everyone. New to the RimfireCentral fourm.

Have read many posts for several days and realized I can get great insight and info on specific quesions.

I own a Contender in .35 Rem. Got it through a trade for stuff I had no use for so I came out ahead. But for a hand gun the thing is just a cannon. More than a few shots and I am done for the day. I can't stand the recoil. I now plan to get a .17HMR barrel to use for p-dog shooting in MT next summer. I need some suggestions for a very good quality scope to mount on the 17. Would rather have high quality at higher price over lower quality at lower price but want high quality at low price.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have several pistol barrels for my Contenders. On the 17Hmr class stuff, I like the Burris 3-12 AO Ballistic Plex. I use one on my VVCG 22 Mag barrel and it has worked out fine.

I also have a Weaver 1.5x4 that I was using on the 22 Mag barrel, but ended up putting this on the 357 Mag 10 inch. The 44 Mag wears a 2.5 fixed. The 30-30 wears a Burris red Dot. I have a rifle 4x AO on my 22LR barrel.

You can use a rifle scope on the 17. It has hardly any recoil. Sky is the limit on your choices there.

No P-dogs in these parts but we do have G-hog. I use the weaver base and rings on the .17HMR 14". Topped off with the T/C 2.5 X 7 scope. Using SteadyStix I can keep them grouped around [email protected] yards.

Thanks Joe,

I just placed an order for the .17 hmr and will probably go w/ the Burris 2x7 w/ ballistic plex. I'm new to hand gun shooting so I want to be able to see my target when at full magnification.

I consider Burris to be right there in quality with the leupolds and they do cost a little less. I have a 3-9 with AO and target knobs on my 12" contender in 223. I believe it's the best scope I've got. You gonna get rid of your 35?

A buddy of mine and I both own the T/C. He works in Algeria (the country) and lives in Houston so I am the one that gets to keep and shoot the contender. He doesn't want to get rid of the 35 because he comes in to visit he likes to go out and see just how much damage it can do to cinder blocks, melons, etc.

What kind of accurace do you get on your .223. I've got a Ruger M77 in .223 I am taking p-dog hunting next summer along w/ the new .17hmr. Just wondering if it is something I might want to add to the barrel collection.

You can't beat the 223 pistol barrels! Of course it's a lot to do with the optics. I get about 1 1/4 at 100 yds with a good steady rest. Get yourself a 223 pistol barrel that way you can let your m77 cool off every once in a while. Just look out you'll be like me and get more barrel than you can shoot. So far I've got 7x30 waters, 35 rem, 223rem,45-70gov and a 44mag all in 12" hunters, a 10" 22mag and then got a 16" 45-70 that I've got set up as a carbine. I would still like to have a 357 max and a 30-30 both in 12" hunters to complete my collection. Their addictive!
