Bought a model 41 the other week and noticed with a bore scope the barrel inside was pitted where they bead blasted the face of the muzzle. Im getting 5/8" to 1 1/4 groups with CCI standard at 25yds using a 3 min red dot, 2 inch target off a rest. Does this seem acceptable or should I send it back to Smith.

Thanks for any input.

My M41 with a 4moa dot Matchdot gives me dime-sized groups with CCI SV at 25 yards(and I have crappy eyes). I would send it back to S&W.

If they bead blasted the inside of the barrel at the muzzle then that is not appropriate and I would send the gun back to S&W. In my mind there is nothing that can be done to correct that issue short of barrel replacement, unless the pitting is extremely light. If so it may be possible to lap it out, but I would go for a new barrel and be done with it.

Welcome to the forum.

I would call S&W on Monday and send that barrel back to them also. Should be getting better at 25 yards.

Looks like its going home. What group size should I expect at 25 yds rested, with CCi standard and red dot 3 min. Covers 3/4 at 25?

Also the rifling looks off center of the bore. Looking straight ahead into the muzzle, the land is visable at 12 o'clock and not at 6 o'clock. Looks very smooth there.

5/8 is good accuracy at 25 yards but I have a Ruger Mark 111 hunter that will shoot 1/4 groups at 25 yards! I would try some different Ammo also sometimes they shoot different Ammo better

Is that with a scope or red dot. That red dot makes for a large aim point at 25. Small aim, small miss... Kind of like shooting a scope with crosshairs 1" thick.
Tried Lapua center x and it didnt care for it at all.. Thank God............

With red dot! With scope shoots threw same hole!my volquartsen black mamba will shoot one inch groups with open sights at 25 yards! My model 41 would shoot 1/2 groups with ultra dot but was limited to what Ammo was reliable so I sold all 4 41s ! Ruger and volquartsen will do that with bulk ammunition so a better choice for me ! But not ever one likes rugers grip angle

Swap that red dot for a good pistol scope and I'm thinking your M41 will do 1/2 inch groups at 25yards. You ain't going to light any matches with a red dot.

I'm with Turtle. My M41 went down the road to pay for this project.

Esmith is right a good pistol scope will produce the smallest group possible! One other thing the shooter must also be capable of shooting small groups! The biggest factor is human error ! Most 22 pistols will shoot better than the shooter can!

Flash Gordon lives here. Looks like a ray gun. Bet it shoots very well though. Big Larry

The model 41 is a nice looking gun! And they can be tuned to shoot excellent! But for me it wasn’t the best choice! If I came across one for a good deal I would probably buy it ! Just to have another one! But I would not give full price for one!
