Kimber 82g in Appleseed

I shot my first appleseed this weekend. The main purpose was to get training to the wife, but I figured I would shoot it as well. While none of the concepts were completely new to me, it made me realize a couple mistakes I had been making with fundamentals.

In any case, having not been to one before, I did not know the course of fire, so I brought my single shot Kimber 82. As those that have done appleseed before can imagine, this didn't go too well in the rapid fire stages. Dropping into position and getting 10 aimed shots off in 55 seconds took some quick loading and bolt manipulation. I ended up with an AQT score of 234 on the first day, enough for rifleman and distinguished in Maryland. This really surprised me as for at least a couple of those shots, my cheek wasn't even on the stock, much less aiming down the sights since I was trying to get the next shot off so quick.

The next day, I used a loaner 10/22 and did better with a 241/250 (aiming helps), but it was no where near as fun as doing it with the Kimber.

Well done!

We had a guy shoot a single shot rifle in one of Rimfire Sporter matches. He did surprisingly well in the rapid fire stages too.

I find it amazing what some folks can do when they put their mind to it.

I've been toying with the idea of using my 82 in an Appleseed. What'd you use to hold your ammo? Anything mounted on the stock, or just loose rounds laying on the mat?
