Scratched an itch....

I always admired the Ruger Target models, but couldn't justify the cost back then. I continued to ogle them, even after discovering better guns. The hammer-forged barrels really catch my eye. The stainless came in a laminated pepper stock, the blue (black) in a laminated brown. Several folks have commented that Ruger should have switched the stocks.

Last year, CDNN got a supply of the stainless at a good price. I ordered one, and found that they don't ship to CA. I considered all the workarounds, then went to Gunbroker and found a NOS blued. Bought it, got it, shot it, kept it - wished it had the stainless hammer-forged barrel. Finally occurred to me that Ruger sells parts...and they sell that barrel for $199.95. Now I got what I really wanted!

This one is all about looks. There's no way it will shoot as well as my Supergrade, but I'm all right with that. It can just sit there and look pretty.

I agree. The stainless looks great in the brown stock. Enjoy.

don't dismiss those SS hammer forged Target barrels too quickly..some of them can be surprisingly accurate for production line barrels

I'm looking forward to shooting it soon. Had a shoulder replaced last month, takes a while to recover. It'll be a while before I'll be comfortable enough to enjoy shooting it - it was all I could handle replacing the barrel.

The blued barrel was not bad at all. I just really like that hammer-forged stainless' appearance. I installed a Kidd two stage trigger in it when I bought it, set at 8/8oz. It should be a fun one.

I'd STRONGLY consider sending the gun to CPC for their full tune up. Will shoot right with that Supergrade. Best $200 or so you will ever invest on a rifle! The entire gun will come back improved from end to end fully blueprinted and more accurate and reliable than ever.
