Blind date here also, buddy of mine had a date, and would I mind coming along since she had a sister, anything for a friend right. I was eighteen, she was seventeen, she wanted to get married that night, not me, but she was very persistent, five years later she finally persuaded me to tie the knot, we will celebrate our 46th anniversary in August. The sister, she has been married and divorced five times. Oh and by the way, I was slim, tanned, and also had hair then. My lovely bride is still a very beautiful woman.

Even when it goes sideways, I'm learning.

Current husband. Ha!

I would say "don't get me started..." but, at the risk of oversharing and only because you asked...

This is hubby number four. The first died of a heart attack, the second of cancer. Number three was a bad decision and she probably married only because she came up pregnant. He was or turned alcoholic, lost his teaching job, then lost his job loading luggage at the airport on the nightshift. She fled to the safety net I offered on The Raggedy Edge to get away from his attempts at using the child as a pawn after the divorce.

The funny thing is that it wasn't long after I asked her if she was content to be living alone, to which she emphatically answered "you bet! I'm through with men!" that she got hooked up with the new guy. I must have accidently put the thought in her head. I could probably go through my phone bills and tell you the exact date they started corresponding via text after their online meeting. At the time she was on my phone plan and I noticed a sudden spike in charges for text messages. At the time I wrote it off as her handling the sale of her house but in retrospect I put a different spin on it. It was about a month later he was introduced as her "friend" (as in amigo rather than novio). Wedding bells not long after.

Number Four is ... what?.... 15 years older than her so there may be room to squeeze in Number Five before all is said and done.

Yeah, it has meandered a bit, hasn't it.

Yet, IMO women liked to be asked out. Heard my gal friend and her friends just gush like school children when a guy hits on them. Of course, the more attractive the guy the more they gush unless he's a keeper and then they keep that information to themselves while they figure out how much of a keeper he is.

So just asking for observations and maybe we'll find some wisdom.

Unhappy folks? I'm happier now than at any time since Summer vacation in junior high school, ma'am. Allow me to share some highs and woes.

1. I escaped from a marriage where I was being abused by a diagnosed and adjudicated mentally ill woman.

2. I rent a house that's a ten minute walk from the beach.

3. My Son has been accepted to a great university.

4. I have a good job, but can retire tomorrow if I choose (Hard as she tried, she couldn't rob me of that).

5. I have all of the material things I need (But can't afford some of the things I want, after the divorce process siphoned off much of what I'd worked for over three decades).

6. I'm in good health.

7. I have a hot girlfriend who's nice to me (most of the time).

8. I have a cat that's happy to see me when I come home.

9. I don't give a hoot about what anyone says or thinks about me.

Incredible story for several reasons and hubby made it clear with something he said early on that it was via match or something similar.

Not sure why she is embarrassed about it but I have my theories.
The stories are the "she is meeting a guy she met online. He is a (type of employment), he likes to (hobby/s) and lives (wherever)". Couple weeks later another "she is meeting...". Almost like reading the bio online.

1. I escaped from a marriage where I was being abused by a diagnosed and adjudicated mentally ill woman. +1 but mine was Mensa

2. I rent a house that's a ten minute walk from the beach. Gal friend helped me buy a place on a golf course and 2 miles to beach (since I had helped her)

3. My Son has been accepted to a great university. Five kids - three doctors in the family but the youngest two boys were hit by the divorce.

4. I have a good job, but can retire tomorrow if I choose (Hard as she tried, she couldn't rob me of that). I quit as soon as I saw that a lifetime can be taken from you. The ex wanted me to have to work the rest of my life.

5. I have all of the material things I need (But can't afford some of the things I want, after the divorce process siphoned off much of what I'd worked for over three decades). +1

6. I'm in good health. +1 thank you God

7. I have a hot girlfriend who's nice to me (most of the time). Smart nurse practioner girlfriend who is always nice to me. She's nicer yet I'm more sensitive LOL.

8. I have a cat that's happy to see me when I come home. -1 other people have enough pets for me.

9. I don't give a hoot about what anyone says or thinks about me. +1 unless there thinking might have an impact on me.
Bittersweet though because my goal in life, what I knocked myself out for, can't be.

In the opening scenes of The Good Liar we see Helen Mirren's character filling out one of those online profiles. She's drinking a martini as she does so but checks the block for "non-drinker."

It's an excellent flick, by the way. Both
