I think this is the source of the "mighty tug" on my targets. It isn't exactly a flinch, but I know the break is coming and I push to the center, but my movement is unsubtle and I ruin an OK hold.

It's marksman's hell arrived at on a pavement of good intentions.

If you're getting the "mighty tug" check your natural point of aim(NPOA) . I can guarantee there is something wrong with it. You are "muscling " the gun to get to the center of the bullseye, you relax and the barrel drifts and your mind tells you to push it back to the center. Check your NPOA then check it a couple more times, MAKE the necessary adjustments, you should be relaxed in your hold. The muscling of the gun isn't like lifting weights muscling, it is very subtle and it takes alot self awareness to be notice it. Biggest thing is to RELAX .

Sorry for the long winded reply,
Scott

The only way I've found to relax as to the hold is to obsess over follow through.

A typical scenario is that most of the way through a target without any 8s, and my interior commentary switches to this going to be the one so don't screw it up, I hit the second stage and keep squeezing and as the shot is about to break I can't ignore my wobble zone and I force it.

Not saying that NOPA isn't an issue here, but I trace the primary cause to my mind more than my feet.

How's that for longwinded?

With over half the shots X's, there isn't anything to not be happy about. A lot of people would struggle to do that off an improvised rest.

That's some solid shooting for a first offhand match. It's not like that 89 was much of a slip.

##25 Yard Scoped Practice##

DATE: 5/13/2021
SCORE: 467-9X
NAME: Zukiphile, 55
LOCATION: Ohio
GUN: CMMG Lothar Walther
GUN SETUP: 2.5x20 scope
AMMO: Federal American Eagle 36gr cp hp
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 95-5X, 92-0X, 92-0X, 95-1x, 93-3X

This is terrible ammunition some of which had turned green; rested it shoots about .75 inches at 25 yards. I'd use it up in a pistol, but the tip tends to stick at the bottom of the feed ramp in pistols.

Two sets of 25 and 50 yard targets does today. Tried some Eley Club I've had sitting around for a bit, trying to save my SK Rifle Match for my Silhouette matches.

We get a bonus fifth weekend this month so I'll reserve claiming any of these as entries for the time being.

**** 50-YARD SCOPE ENTRY **** 5-15-21

SCORE: 233-3X
NAME: acorneau (Allen Corneau)
LOCATION: Bayou Rifles, Houston
GUN: Anschutz 1710
SCOPE: Leupold/Premier at ~25X
AMMO: Eley Club
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 46, 46-1X, 46-2X, 48, 47

**** 25-YARD SCOPE Practice **** 5-15-21

SCORE: 486-17X
NAME: acorneau (Allen Corneau)
LOCATION: Bayou Rifles, Houston
GUN: Anschutz 1710
SCOPE: Leupold/Premier at ~18X
AMMO: Eley Club
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 97-4X, 98-4X, 98-3X, 98-3X, 95-3X

Had an 8 on the first bull and dropped a 7 on the last bull.

**** 25-YARD SCOPE ENTRY **** 5-15-21

SCORE: 487-17X
NAME: acorneau (Allen Corneau)
LOCATION: Bayou Rifles, Houston
GUN: Anschutz 1710
SCOPE: Leupold/Premier at ~18X
AMMO: Eley Club
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 98-3X, 96-2X, 97-5X, 98-4X, 98-3X

I had three shots that just cut the 9 line. Too close for comfort!

**** 50-YARD SCOPE Practice **** 5-15-21

SCORE: 224-2X
NAME: acorneau (Allen Corneau)
LOCATION: Bayou Rifles, Houston
GUN: Anschutz 1710
SCOPE: Leupold/Premier at ~25X
AMMO: Eley Club and Target
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 46-2X, 44, 43, 45, 46

I only had 15 shot of Club left so I had to use 10 shots of Eley Target to finish up. (Lucky for me I still had some left!)

##25 Yard Scoped Entry##
Zukiphile - Lothar Walther- Federal American Eagle 36gr cp hp - 471-3X

DATE: 5/15/2021
SCORE: 471-3X
NAME: Zukiphile, 55
LOCATION: Ohio
GUN: Lothar Walther
GUN SETUP: 2x Prism
AMMO: Federal American Eagle 36gr cp hp
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 96-1X, 94-1X, 96-0X, 92-0x, 93-1X

Perfect conditions

Revelation - As Scott J noted, there is a point of aim issue. As I make my way through a magazine, I lean forward.

New oddity noticed - I was slow and deliberate on this one, trying to mind my technique. I shot one just after this not worrying about technique and blowing through each magazine at what I would call a comfortable pistol pace. The result was 470 with only four 8s on the whole card.
