Questions on scoring:
I started researching plug gages and see some specifically state ARA, others don'ts specify and some state another sanctioning body.
Is there a difference so you have to have separate gages?
Best with or without the magnifier?

I was also looking at the OnTarget software chuck40219 used in his post and wonder what everyone thinks? Does the automatic feature actually do a good job of locating the holes and properly calculating results? I was impressed with the idea of being able to combine the shots for group and can see using that for tracking improvement, or lack of, over time.

I have both types of plugs and honestly can say I like the one without the magnifier better.
I use my reading glasses and can see better without the plastic in the way.

With my eyesight, I was thinking a separate magnifier with a light would work better than the one with magnifier installed.
It looks like most places charge more for shipping than the cost of the gage so wonder if there is a best option for purchase?

You can google 22 scoring gauge and find the best price. I got my last one at Champions I think.

Can't post a picture, but in ARA we went to the "Eagle eye", made by Bald Eagle. We had some instances of shooters pre-scoring their targets and if you lean on the plug a bit you could make the hole appear to be where it scored higher. The Eagle eye (sometimes referred to as the "evil eye")doesn't move the paper in any way.

Yes,that is the one.

I ordered one of those to try as well as a clear plastic pc that can be layer on top of a target to try, didnt like the idea of the plug gauge and the possible of widening or "leaning" on it.

Trying to gain some tools and experience and enjoy marksmanship with the 22 to help with the bigger more punishing calibers I shoot

Wow, my eyes were bugged out after the first 3 rows. Scoring plug was used on all suspect holes.
# 2 was so close. Not in the white but no black showing with plug. It was exactly where the black meets the white. I took the deduction.

Great target Shorty. I have not even fired my Winchester 52 this year, hope I can come close to your target when I get to it.

The On Target software does a good job when the scan of the target is perfect. It requires the image to be at 100% and the exposure to be at a certain level. I use it for a benchmark for my own scorning. I feel it has helped my shooting in the respect of seeing what changes in the gun or my shooting makes on the target. Helps with ammo testing also.

About scoring plugs, I have one made by Hughes Precision Products LLC, www.hughesprecision.com. Don't know if they are still made or not. Can't believe I have not lost it yet.

I wound up buying a plug gage and an Eagle Eye.
(Both are far more critical than my old eyes)

At least it should make my scoring more consistent with significantly fewer subjective calls.

I am still considering the software but with the money spent lately, will have to wait a bit.
