I have a mod.60/70 with a Tasco 4-24x40 ao it for. Shooting 50 ft tiny groups only offhand probably looks huge to some but I got used to it it's also hell on squirrels!

Here are two fine Marlins: an 881 made in 1995, and an 81 TSDU made in 1999.

The wood on these is just great. I'm keeping this 881 forever. The 81 I'll likely send down the road sooner or later, especially if I find an XT-22 TSR.

I wish I knew more about Marlin history from 1995 to the present. Brophy's book is great, but it ends nearly a quarter of a century ago now. There are a few generations of the 81 from the late 1930s up to the early 70s when the 781 was introduced, then then 881 came about fifteen or so years later....but what's the story with the 81 TS and the 981? It seems like the 81 TS was produced alongside the 881, or maybe it replaced it briefly before the introduction of the 981, but I really don't know.
