1968 Single Six

LGS took in a 5 1/2” Single Six with the extra magnum cylinder . I would rate this gun a good 98% with no holster wear and it has the box and docs . Serial number is 559669 which I think is 1968 . Price is $299.00 plus tax . I didn’t look real close but it doesn’t look like it was upgraded safety wise .
I’m not up to date on these older SS Rugers. Are they good shooters and is this a good price ?
Thanks in advance .

I'd be on it like a Duck on a June Bug and I'm not a huge SS fan but that's a deal.

We paid almost twice that for an unfired Super Single Six, 1965 vintage, with box and papers. Old Model Rugers are becoming very collectible. They were made in a day when Ruger was a different company. General fit and finish, blueing, triggers were a cut above current production Rugers. They are great shooters, yes. That price would be the cliche "steal". I would expect to pay a minimum of $100 more, if it is as good as you describe.

I would also jump on it. Maybe not like a duck on a June bug, but I would be all over it. In fact, it have already been mine, all MINE!!!

That's a great price!

Be sure to check the timing, and lock-up. Also look at the gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone. It should be less than the thickness of a credit card, but not touching at any position of the cylinder as it's rotated. Check to see if there is any lead build-up on the forcing cone, or on the frame. If you can, bore-scope the barrel and look for any issues.

Here's a useful Revolver Check-Out thread at CalGuns.

Hope this works out for you. I love my Single Six!

If I read the serial number list correctly this is a 1970 Single-Six, it has some carry wear and I don't remember what I paid for it. It looks like you got your self a nice deal RF Nick.

I hope you have a chance to get it. For the price, it is a good deal and it will last a few lifetimes if you take care of it.

In this situation I would have put it on layaway and done the paperwork later!
