What is the best 17hm2 to purchase? I am torn between a used anschutz 1502, CZ, or buying a new savage mkII and dumping money into it or buying a volquartsen summit. Anybody have any good insite on these choices or handled a couple of them?
Thanks

I have owned 6 different hm2 rifles. 1 Savage mkll, 1 Marlin 917, 1 CZ 452 and currently 1 TC R55 Sportster, 1 Custom Remington 581 with an Anschutz 1502 barrel and 1 Summit with an ER Shaw Barrel and Custom stock. I would say my current 3 are by far my favorites with the CZ coming in 4th and the Marlin 5th leaving the Savage last. When it comes to accuracy, my 581 is probably the best, Summit, TC and others all close in.

Biggest differences are probably feel, asthetics, trigger and fit. Accuracy overall not a lot different from first to last but I have a hard time leaving them alone until they shoot acceptably. Cost wise you can almost reverse the order with the exception maybe of the Summit being the most expensive but I build my own rifles and most stocks any more so costs will vary depending on what you do. If your leaving it factory, for strictly a beat around utility type gun you won't go wrong with the Savage or Marlin. If you are into quality, a custom, the Anschutz or Summit but also there is the Sako and a few others. CZ is the happy medium. I don't think I have helped you at all.

Iíve owned about every rifle available in a Mach 2 except for a Savage and a Cooper. I can tell you without a doubt that the best bang for your buck is a CZ 452 if you can find one. Mine probably outshoots most of my other rimfires. The Summit is the most fun but itís double the price of a CZ

Why don't you buy one of the Ruger American's to play with the Hm2 around $350. They are available new and of better quality than the savage in my opinion. I think ammo quality is the biggest issue with accuracy. My 17 hmr American is very accurate.

I was unaware ruger was making a 17hm2. I know they made a run of them for Whitakers but it seems there was a lot of unhappy buyers as well.

Appears to have been issues with shipping or quality control from ruger. Had seen some reviews of poor accuracy but there are a lot of variables for that. Also appears as if they are out of stock and probably no longer going to be produced.

Another option would be to pick up a used (to keep cost down) CZ 455 in 22LR, and order an aftermarket barrel. I went in this direction...picked up a new 457 synthetic (cheapest one there is), and ordered a Lothar Walther .17 HM2 barrel.
Just something else to consider...

Have decided I am going to rebarrel one of the rifles I already own, likely my ruger precision in 22lr. Have options of lothar walther and whistle pig, not sure if there are any others out there.
