46M T Handle project

Log in to see fewer ads
In a previous thread ( in February 2021) I wanted to make my 146 T handle into a 146M. Bought a 46M to transfer the wood but that wouldn’t happen, too many differences. Been watching for a 42Mor 46M with a T bolt handle they are as rare as hens teeth.

A friend bought a lathe and I asked him if he could make a T for me. Gave him the 146 T handle bolt so he had a model to copy. He has the T made and we are gonna somehow make it fit.

How is the round knob attached to the 46 bolt handle?? I figured I would find out as I grind it off. He will drill and slot the T to be fit to the 46 bolt handle. I will file the handle to fit the slot in the T. I am thinking of a button hole weld on the outside of the T, then file it smooth. Then cold blue the handle. Any ideas or help would be appreciated, Larry

Oh yeah, have a great Thanksgiving

The knob is screwed on the 46 handle. The original t-bolt handles are a slip and solid-ed fit

If you look at your t bolt, you will see it is notched, the handle just slides in the notch and both pieces are soldered together

Here's one I made awhile back experimenting. Shows a t-bolt and another busted 100 series handle.

Up here you can get the "T" handles for about $80can. It use to be $60 when I bought mine. Saves a lot of work and if you keep the old handle you can swap back when you are done.

I watch auction sites for T bolts and some come often enough but they are for the 146-142’s and would require surgery to fit the 46. Most are over 100.00 when the auction ends.

Since the round bolt knob is threaded on, that’s an option for attaching the T. Seems like most T handle’s the bolt lever is straight, not like the 42M-46M’s lever curves to the rear of the gun. To make this simple, the T will be on the original curved bolt.

The trigger on the 146 downstairs seems to have a lighter/crisper pull then the 46M. Is there an adjustment for the trigger on the 46M?? Since the 46M didn’t have the correct peep sight, I bought a scope mount from Haviln.

Attached is a picture of what I want in the end, like the silver high spots on the T, looks classy. Larry
