If interested not like the old days in the 90's of there ammo being 1/2 price
of the ammo on the market at the time.

https://www.ammunitiondepot.com/cjsc...lid-point.html

I ordered 250 rounds too try out....what the heck.

Shot some of my old stock of Russian ammo a few months ago in one of my
Russian rifles of course.

All my Russian ammo is 30+ years old....should be fun too try some new stuff.

Swiss-

Thanks for sharing! Pretty cool find with the so called Russian ammo ban being announced.

Any idea the velocity? Couldn’t find it listed anywhere.

As always- pictures or it didn’t happen

$8/50rds box for Russian ammo
- I sure miss the old days of the USSR regular "target" ammo for $10/brick, the Vostok biathlon ammo for $150/case...

My ammo review

Took 2 rifles too the range this morning.
I use them both for hunting and did a little ammo shoot off @25Y.
Was a nice morning temp 60*, winds light and had two wind flags.
So yah I tried out the new to me Russian ammo and it is Std V.
First up my Americanized TOZ 78-01.

The Russian stuff, not too bad

Compared too some other brands.

Next up my CZ 452 Scout that was a low dollar project rifle.

The CZ with the Russian stuff, the CZ shot it a little better then the TOZ.

Here is some other brands in the CZ.

They both had clean barrels from the start of testing and both have nice 2lb hunting triggers.
The Russian ammo is just a new box of the old Jr. Brass but this stuff is
very greasy kind of like SK magazine.
Will I buy any more...no... not unless the $$$ comes way down.
But was just a little fun that don't mean a hole lot, if I did this like next
summer and it's hot like 90* and humid I think the results would be a little different.

It's always good to have another option... beside, there are worst ways to spend time (and $) then testing ammo at the range

It's a good alternative at a resonable price!

Russian ammo

Temp is the Olympic grade ammo (like Eley 10X), and Junior is like our cheap Remington target ammo. They are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Nope Temp is there middle grade ammo like Eley Club & RWS Target.
Sniper and match is there hi-grade match ammo.

Olyp was the Russian best grade of ammo.

Here is the best ammo the Russian have ever made (Olimp)

Had the dimple stamp and was supposedly as good as Eley 10X.
Was semi-sorta of hand made in its own very special assembly plant.
And the plant burnt too the ground...and i guess that put an end of Olimp ammo.

I'd say it was at least as good (given the usual caveats of matching rifle and ammo). By my reckoning Olimp was used to win at least 10 Olimpic medals (possibly 16) in 50m rifle events since 1980; the World Championship haul would be far higher. That's not bad going. Around 1990 the British coach quoted Lones Wigger (then coaching) saying the Russians had the edge in rifles and ammo.

Midwest---I never had any of the Olimp, always looked for it back in the day at the gun shows though. We've all heard the anecdotes about how the Russians had someone pickup their spent cases at events, so no one would see that secret "dimple" on the case heads. Also, this is supposedly how Federal got the idea for their original version of "UltraMatch" ammo. I did use a lot of the original UltraMatch (UM1-B flavor) when it was in production, and for a period of time after it was discontinued (that is, until my "stash" ran out). It was indeed the best American-made .22 ammo EVER. I won many "local" 200yd prone matches with that stuff... Anyway, got of track here, but I guess we should all "thank" the Russians for producing the Olimp, and in turn for their unintended contribution to the development of the original Federal UltraMatch ammo. 'Tis a shame it was discontinued

The dimple was not a Soviet invention one should add. See here for dimple-based cartridges made over half a century before Olimp. https://sites.google.com/site/britmi...2-inch-rimfire No explanation is given for the dimple by King's Norton, so the Soviets may have been the first to use the dimple to improve ignition.

Pre-dimple was better.
