457 first look

I had an opportunity to see my frst 457 today. The shop had a 457 trainer. There was a new 452 LH Amercan and a used 452 RH American. Several 455 models on the new rack.

I looked for bugs defects, crown, firing pin and over all fit and finsh no QC type problems visable to my eye. It looks the the 457 stocks follow the identical pattern as the 452 and 455 for style and wood. From the distance it looked like any other 45x trainer. Bolt was smooth, not even at all rough.

The big change is the bolt and I did not care for the firing pin setup. I was already prejudiced with photos and opinions on RFC. I prefer the old bolt mounted safety. The lift could have been reduced from 90 degree without the other changes. I was surprised that trigger guard did not look that good. I prefer the simple 452 with a deep blue. The 457 still uses the sleezy plastic spacer with the 22lr magazine well. The guard itself has an akward 2 piece look, not molded pretty like the DIP. The metal finish was not particularly attractive. About a tie between with the medium level polish and blue on the 455. The 452LH is way better looking.

I dont see any 457 in my future. If all my CZ were stolen and I had to fill that nitch I would look at the Zastave cz99. The nitch being classic wood and steel for much less cost than anschutz/browning/sako/miruko/kimber class guns. CZ used to be a bargain gun with killer looks and good performance. Done.

I almost purchased a 455 scout for a project to play with my spare 22mag barrel. I may go back for that. It was $100 less and I liked it better than the 457.

They also had 455 stainless. I sure miss the satin brush finish that stainless guns used to get, but; it seemed a good practical gun the likes of which may not be available from cz for a long time. And then in a 457.

Was waiting for a 457 .22 Magnum, my grand daughter made of with my last 455, at my insistence of course.......went to my LGS who just called, he received two 457's, I looked, wound up leaving with a 455 Synthetic .22 Magnum, unusual rife, a solid bolt handle Lux action in a synthetic with sights, labeled as such on the factory box, maybe CZ cleaning out old inventory of action and stocks? I just couldn't pull the trigger on a 457, maybe this was my last CZ.
